JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Senior Cloud Engineer is a hands-on engineer who builds and maintains Greystar's modern cloud infrastructure, following Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and landing zone patterns established by cloud platform leadership. This is first and foremost a cloud infrastructure engineering role: standing up and operating subscriptions, PaaS resources, and IaC-driven environments within the landing zone model - networking, identity, and data platform infrastructure are core supporting pieces of that work, not the whole of it. You will partner closely with the Data, Digital, and AI (D2AI) team on the infrastructure that supports their analytics and AI/ML workloads, including the Databricks data plane.

The ideal candidate has solid, provable hands-on experience building and operating cloud infrastructure within a landing zone/CAF model - PaaS services, Infrastructure as Code, private networking, and data platform infrastructure. You bring real production experience, not just design familiarity, and you're comfortable working from established patterns while contributing improvements back to them.

This is an individual contributor role. There is no formal management responsibility, though you'll be expected to share knowledge with and support the growth of less experienced engineers on the team.

JOB DESCRIPTION

What You Will Do:

Cloud Infrastructure Engineering:

  • Build and maintain cloud infrastructure within Greystar's landing zone model, following CAF-aligned patterns for subscription vending, management group placement, and environment standards.

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain PaaS resources (App Services, Azure SQL, Storage, Container Registry, Container Apps, AKS) in line with reference architectures set by the Principal Cloud Engineer.

  • Implement and operate the private networking components of the landing zone - hub-and-spoke topology, private endpoint configuration, Private DNS zones, and network segmentation - following established enterprise standards.

  • Build and maintain the infrastructure components that support the Databricks data plane and other AI/ML infrastructure used by the D2AI team.

  • Troubleshoot production cloud infrastructure issues across compute, storage, networking, and data platform layers.

  • Support multi-cloud infrastructure work (Azure, AWS) as Greystar's cloud portfolio grows.

Infrastructure as Code and Automation:

  • Build and maintain Terraform modules and pipeline templates based on patterns defined by platform leadership, and contribute improvements back to the shared module library.

  • Use CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent) to deploy and manage infrastructure in a repeatable, version-controlled, and auditable way.

  • Use Greystar's AI tooling (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to accelerate infrastructure authoring, runbooks, and documentation.

Enablement and Collaboration:

  • Partner with application development teams, including D2AI, to implement the networking, identity, and deployment patterns they need to ship confidently.

  • Work from paved-road reference implementations and Terraform modules built by the Principal Cloud Engineer, adapting them to specific team and workload needs.

  • Participate in cloud design reviews as a technical contributor, providing implementation-level input on networking and infrastructure decisions.

Operational Excellence:

  • Implement observability standards (logging, tracing, metrics, dashboards, and alerting) for the infrastructure you build and operate.

  • Follow and help refine operational lifecycle practices - patching cadence, certificate rotation, backup and disaster recovery - for the systems under your ownership.

  • Contribute to technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, runbooks, and standard operating procedures for the infrastructure you build.

Knowledge Sharing:

  • Share hands-on knowledge with systems administrators and less experienced engineers through pairing, code review, and informal mentoring.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with DevOps, security, and application teams to keep infrastructure work aligned with team needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • 5+ years of progressive experience building and operating modern cloud infrastructure.

  • Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructure within a landing zone or Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) model - subscription vending, management group structure, and environment standards.

  • Solid, hands-on experience with core PaaS services (App Services, managed databases, storage, container platforms).
