Senior Backend Engineer

Role Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build the services and APIs that power our platform. In this role, you will own backend systems end-to-end — from architecture through production — delivering performant, reliable, and scalable solutions. Our team practices deep AI-human collaboration: engineers work alongside AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) as partners throughout the development process, and we expect this role to bring strong craft and judgment to that collaboration.

What You'll Do:

• Partner with AI coding assistants throughout your development workflow — collaborating on design, exploration, implementation, and review — and help shape how the team works with these tools effectively.

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.

• Build and evolve RESTful APIs with careful attention to contracts, versioning, and developer experience.

• Design schemas and write efficient queries across relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis) data stores.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code using frameworks like Jest or Vitest.

• Collaborate with frontend, product, and infrastructure teams to ship features end-to-end.

• Deploy and operate services in a cloud environment, with proper logging, metrics, and alerting.

• Review pull requests, mentor mid-level and junior engineers, and contribute to architectural decisions.

Must-Haves:

• Experience collaborating with AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as a real part of your engineering practice — you know how to partner effectively, engage critically with their output, and bring human rigor to the collaboration.

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience building and operating production systems.

• Strong proficiency in Node.js and its ecosystem (event loop, async patterns, streams).

• Solid experience with TypeScript.

• Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs.

• Working familiarity with at least one NoSQL store (Cosmos DB, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, etc.).

• Production experience in a cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

• Experience with testing frameworks like Jest or Vitest.

• Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and the fundamentals of running services in production.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with Microsoft Azure (Container Apps, Entra ID, Functions, Cosmos DB, Application Gateway).

• Familiarity with Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.

• Background working with microservices or service-oriented architectures at scale.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
