The Position

Arevon is recruiting for the position of RTO Policy Manager, an outstanding opportunity for individuals seeking an exciting, high-growth work environment in one of the most important industries of the 21st century. The RTO Policy Manager will report to the Vice President of Government Affairs and Marketing and coordinate closely with Arevon’s interconnection, structuring, and origination teams.

The ideal candidate has experience in western electricity markets (CAISO, ERCOT) and familiarity with electricity policymaking and the RTO stakeholder process. They can juggle multiple priorities and enjoy supporting a dynamic and diverse team of internal stakeholders. They have a strong network of electric industry professionals and the ability to maintain and grow those connections.

Preference for this role is to be based in Scottsdale. However, a fully remote location will be considered for candidates with proven industry experience (and preferably located west of the Mississippi River). Phoenix-area team members will work from our Scottsdale office on a hybrid schedule (in-office days of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Please specify your desired location in your cover letter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend in-person and virtual meetings of multiple regional transmission organizations (RTOs), primarily the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
  • Participate in national and regional trade associations for industry-wide conversations about RTO policies.
  • Understand wholesale energy markets, key RTO terminology, and the interconnection process (both the RTO’s and transmission owner’s responsibilities).
  • Concisely summarize key takeaways from RTO stakeholder meetings and trade association calls.
  • Describe specific issues and provide relevant reasoning as to why it is important for Arevon’s portfolio.
  • Translate complex topics into simple, persuasive terms, highlighting critical issues for diverse audiences through written reports and oral presentations.
  • Provide logical insights supported with strong pattern-recognition and critical reasoning.
  • Work with internal teams to identify the policy needs and determine the impacts of potential RTO policy changes on Arevon’s business.

Required Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience in the electric industry, preferably working on RTO policy.
  • Knowledge of the CAISO and/or ERCOT stakeholder process, interconnection policies, and any renewables-specific or storage-specific initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Experience analyzing and communicating complex concepts to team members who work in a variety of disciplines.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities daily.
  • Possess an eye for detail and the desire for continuous process improvement.
  • Ability to work with team members in different locations around the country.
  • Ability to influence others without direct authority.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new information and exercise sound judgment.
  • A Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent education, training and experience in Economics, Public Policy, Energy Policy, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Ability to travel (domestically) up to 20% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Utility-scale solar and/or battery energy storge experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the CAISO stakeholder process is preferred.
  • Experience working with the California Public Utilities Commission is a bonus.

If you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications but see yourself contributing, please submit your resume.
