In December 2024, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team of nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals offer a range of healthcare services, including health assessments, chronic disease management, health promotion, wound management, immunizations, and other primary health interventions.  HCA also launched a 24/7 Virtual Care Centre (VCC), offering remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations to enhance onsite care for detainees 

Job Description

As a Virtual Triage Nurse, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive clinical assessments via telehealth platforms, prioritising patient care based on clinical urgency, risk, and presenting needs. You will play a key role in coordinating appropriate care pathways, ensuring patients are directed to the right service at the right time.

You will also provide patient education, support self-management strategies, and contribute to positive health outcomes through effective communication and clinical guidance.

Day to day! 

• Conduct virtual clinical assessments, prioritising patients based on urgency, risk factors, and presenting symptoms.
• Obtain and accurately document patient histories, clinical information, and care plans within electronic health records.
• Coordinate referrals, diagnostics, and care pathways in collaboration with GPs, Nurse Practitioners, specialists, and allied health providers.
• Provide patient education and follow-up to support chronic disease management, self-management, and continuity of care.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary virtual care team while contributing to quality improvement and safe, compliant clinical practice.

Lets talk about you!

You are a confident and experienced Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) and current unrestricted AHPRA registration, bringing a minimum of 5 years’ full-time experience as a Registered Nurse in Primary Health. You are highly autonomous, thrive in fast-paced virtual environments, and demonstrate strong clinical judgement, communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in electronic health records and telehealth platforms. You have experience managing complex and chronic health conditions within a primary healthcare setting, with experience in immigration detention or similar environments highly regarded.
