The research groups within the Departments of Public Health carry out a range of research on critical public health issues. These include cancer and screening, tobacco control, Hauora Māori, health services research and prioritisation, housing, sustainability and the environment, inequities and infectious diseases.

The role | Te mahi

We are looking for a Research Fellow/ Senior Research Fellow to provide tobacco control research and advocacy support to the Cancer Society of New Zealand as appropriate and negotiated within the timeframe available.

Key responsibilities in this role include:
•    Reviewing Cancer Society documents and providing emerging evidence within your specialist topic area.
•    Providing scientific updates and presentations to Cancer Society staff and stakeholders as requested.
•    Participating in team, advocacy, and external meetings, representing yourself and the University of Otago when engaging with media.
•    Supporting any additional reasonable requests from the Cancer Society National Office.

Skills And Experience | Kā Pūkeka Me Kā Wheako

To be successful in this role you must be well organised, self-motivated and have the ability to lead.

The preferred candidate is also expected to have:
•    Postgraduate qualification in Public Health or similar
•    In-depth knowledge of tobacco control advocacy and research.
•    Research expertise.
•    Understanding of and ability to act on Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
•    Ability to work productively and flexibly with a team and key stakeholders.

This is a part-time (0.1 FTE), fixed-term (for four years until March 2030). The appointee can work from home and/or from one of the Otago premises in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or Dunedin.

The salary range for a research Fellow is $97,377 to $114,943 and Senior Research Fellow is $120,494 to $137,444 (pro rata). The successful candidate will be appointed to an appropriate level on either the Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow scale, based on skills and experience.
