QA Lead - Warehouse Simulation Lab

The QA Lead owns the organization's Warehouse Simulation Lab, a strategic testing environment used to validate software, robotic behavior, operational workflows, and customer-specific configurations prior to production deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Define the vision, roadmap, and operating model for the Warehouse Simulation Lab.
  • Develop and maintain digital twin environments that accurately represent customer facilities, workflows, and operational constraints.
  • Ensure simulation environments can model:
    • Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) fleets
    • Workstations and operator interactions
    • Pick, put, replenish, and inventory workflows
    • Conveyor and material handling equipment
    • Warehouse Management System (WMS) integrations
    • ERP integrations
    • Barcode scanning and printing systems
    • PLC-controlled devices
    • Network and infrastructure dependencies
  • Establish simulation standards and environment certification processes.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to ensure new features are validated within simulation environments before customer deployment.
  • Create reusable customer environment templates to accelerate testing and deployment readiness.
  • Develop scenario libraries covering normal operations, edge cases, exception handling, and failure recovery.

Operational Validation Responsibilities

The Warehouse Simulation Lab serves as the primary environment for validating:

  • New product releases
  • Customer-specific configurations
  • Site expansions
  • New robotic workflows
  • Fleet management enhancements
  • Routing algorithm changes
  • Throughput optimization initiatives
  • Software upgrades and migration activities

Simulation-Based Testing

The QA Lead is responsible for ensuring all releases are validated against realistic operational scenarios, including:

  • Peak order volume events
  • High robot density and congestion conditions
  • Inventory shortages
  • Equipment failures
  • Communication outages
  • Network latency events
  • Robot battery depletion scenarios
  • Workstation downtime
  • Integration failures
  • Recovery and restart procedures
  • Multi-zone warehouse operations
  • Exception processing workflows

Success Metrics

  • Percentage of production defects detected within simulation environments
  • Customer deployment success rate
  • Reduction in production incidents following releases
  • Mean time to reproduce customer-reported issues
  • Simulation-to-production behavioral accuracy
  • Operational scenario coverage
  • Release certification cycle time
  • Warehouse throughput validation accuracy

Strategic Objective

The Warehouse Simulation Lab should become the organization's "virtual customer warehouse," enabling engineering teams to validate software against realistic operating conditions before production deployment. The ultimate goal is to identify operational failures, workflow bottlenecks, and integration issues within simulation rather than in live customer environments.
