About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to define and drive the company's technical strategy, ensuring the platform scales effectively with business growth. Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you will lead architectural direction, make critical platform decisions, and deliver high-impact engineering initiatives that create long-term business value.
You will collaborate with Product, Sales, Customer Success, and engineering leadership to align technical investments with business objectives, establish engineering standards, and foster a culture of technical excellence. This role also owns the AI strategy across both engineering workflows and product capabilities, helping shape the future of the platform and the wider business.
\n- Define and drive the company's technical strategy, architectural principles, and engineering standards.
- Own the Opportunity Review process, providing feasibility assessments and architectural guidance for major initiatives before Discovery.
- Make platform-level decisions across infrastructure, data, security, integrations, and build-vs-buy evaluations.
- Lead and deliver high-impact engineering initiatives, including foundational services, platform architecture, and proof-of-concepts.
- Ensure the overall technical health, scalability, and long-term evolution of the platform.
- Partner with Product, Sales, Customer Success, and leadership teams to align technical direction with business objectives.
- Champion engineering excellence through quality standards, best practices, and continuous improvement.
- Define and drive AI strategy across engineering workflows and product capabilities.
- Mentor and develop Lead Engineers, helping strengthen technical leadership across the organisation.
- Support engineering hiring, talent development, and promotion standards.
- Proven experience defining and executing technical strategy at an organisational level.
- Deep architectural expertise across full-stack systems, including infrastructure, data, security, and integrations.
- Strong ability to translate business objectives into technical direction and communicate technical considerations to executive stakeholders.
- Experience leading complex platform, architecture, or transformation initiatives with long-term business impact.
- Demonstrated success mentoring and developing senior or Lead-level engineers.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of how technical decisions influence revenue, cost, scalability, and competitive advantage.
- Experience establishing engineering standards, governance, and best practices across teams.
- Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive alignment across Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Success.
- Experience working within a scaling SaaS organisation.
- Familiarity with AI-native product development and LLM integration patterns.
- Experience leading engineering recruitment and contributing to engineering career frameworks and levelling structures.
