CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Treatment Efficacy and Language Learning Lab is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to serve as a clinical research manager under the supervision of Dr. Amanda Owen Van Horne. The successful candidate in Dr. Owen Van Horne’s lab will coordinate research funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the University of Delaware. We are in the final year of work a clinical trial focused on grammar intervention and uptake of therapy practices by parents and clinicians, as well as research on family support groups for children with DLD. Our lab uses quantitative and qualitative approaches, elicited production, naturalistic language sample analysis, and eye tracking methods.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, resourceful; and has excellent data management and analysis skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to multi-task. Knowledge of online sentence processing, morphosyntax development, and/or developmental language disorder would also be a plus. It is important for the candidate to be able to work both independently and as part of a team and to be able to build and establish rapport with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

The budgeted salary range corresponds to 30E pay scale in alignment with NIH postdoctoral salaries and will follow NIH pay scales. The position is offered as a one-year contract renewable dependent upon performance and available funding. It offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and retirement contributions. Immediate start date available, temporary remote work possible if needed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Support data cleaning and analysis following open science practices.
  • Update and maintain study documentation.
  • Prepare data for publication.
  • Ensure research and clinical service is conducted in an ethical fashion.
  • Dependent on qualifications and interest:
    • Support participant recruitment and retention efforts.
    • Assess children with DLD within a research protocol.
    • Coordinate lab activities,
    • Participate in the grant writing process.
    • May be supported in developing/maintaining their own line of research.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Completed all requirements for an earned research doctorate in speech-language pathology, psychology, linguistics, cognitive science, or a related field by the hire date.
  • Experience setting up workflows for cleaning and analyzing large complex datasets in R.
  • Shares lab commitments and values with regard to open science and increasing research engagement and participation in groups under-represented in research.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to be able to build and establish rapport with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

Preferred:

  • Holds or is eligible for ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) and Delaware licensure in Speech language pathology.
  • Ability to work with Spanish speaking participants/transcribe and analyze data from Spanish-English bilingual individuals.
  • Experience with qualitative and mixed methods research.
  • Willing to work some evening or weekend hours to accommodate participant schedules and to travel up to 30 mi to see participants if needed.
  • Publication record commensurate with experience.
