Are you experienced in building software for geospatial data processing? Would you like to work with truly unique technology that addresses environmental challenges and real-world problems?

We are looking for a Pipeline Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain the software systems that power our satellite ground segment data processing chain. In this role, you will contribute to the end-to-end transformation of raw satellite data into reliable, calibrated, orthorectified, analysis-ready hyperspectral products, covering the processing steps from Level 0 to Level 2.

We offer you a challenging and meaningful role where you can make an impact and help organizations make better decisions. For clarity, we would like to emphasize that this is a software engineering role, not a data scientist position. We are looking for someone with strong hands-on experience in building production-grade software for geospatial data and (hyperspectral) image processing, ideally in the context of Earth observation, remote sensing, or satellite operations.

This is a full-time and permanent role. You can be based at our HQ in Espoo, Finland, or be fully remote. Fully remote employees should be within a maximum of 3 hours of the Eastern European Timezone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust software components for Kuva Space’s satellite ground segment processing chain, covering Level 0 to Level 2 data processing.

  • Implement and optimize processing workflows for radiometric calibration, georeferencing, orthorectification, image validation, and quality control, transforming raw hyperspectral data into analysis-ready products.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, satellite engineers, and product managers, to gather requirements and translate them into efficient pipeline architectures.

  • Write clean, testable, and well-documented code, and contribute to code reviews, CI/CD practices, and software quality improvements.

  • Diagnose and resolve issues in complex processing workflows involving geospatial data, image products, metadata, and infrastructure.

  • Contribute to the evolution of Kuva Space’s ground segment architecture and processing capabilities as our constellation and product offering scale.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Physics, Remote Sensing, or a related technical discipline.

  • 3+ years of professional experience in software development, preferably in geospatial, remote sensing, or image processing.

  • Strong programming skills in Python and experience building production software, not just prototypes or research code.

  • Experience with geospatial data processing and libraries/tools such as GDAL, Rasterio, OpenCV, NumPy, Pandas, Pytorch, or similar.

  • Experience working with image processing, raster imagery, coordinate reference systems, georeferencing, and geospatial file formats.

  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure and services for running scalable processing workloads (e.g. GCP, AWS, containerized environments, object storage, orchestration).

  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL/PostGIS or other spatial databases.

  • Experience with Linux development environments and scripting.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional teams.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • You share the company mission of improving life on Earth through daily, space-borne hyperspectral imaging and AI!🌎💚

Optional Qualifications

  • Background in remote sensing, optics, or physics.

  • Experience with satellite ground segment or Earth observation systems.

  • Experience with multispectral or hyperspectral imagery

  • Understanding of geospatial data formats and processing.

  • Experience with calibration and validation workflows.
