American Specialty Health Incorporated (ASH) is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our Health Services department.
The purpose of this position is to provide Health Services administrative tasks in support of the organization's telehealth programs including support to medical services EMR development, applicable medical guidelines, process documentation, quality of care protocols for the ASH corporation. In addition, provides coordination and delivery of provider education for affiliated Professional Corporations and clinical administrative support for Professional Corporation Medical Director.
Salary Range
American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $112,500.00 to $125,000.00 Full-Time Annual Salary range.
Remote Worker Guidelines
- Remote Worker Guidelines: This position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home (WFH) in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network. The internet connection must have a consistent 50 down/10 up Mbps minimum internet speed. 100 down/20 up is recommended to support higher quality video meetings.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of infrastructure components to support medical consultation and other virtual medical care services in collaboration with Sr Medical Director and Chief Health Services Officer.
This includes development of the following:- For patients with Red Flags on PT/OT intake, develop medical intake questionnaires to determine if the patient may continue with therapy or need to be referred to additional HCP for work-up and assessment.
- Develop a workflow for the telehealth program which includes initial intake by a Physician Assistant. This will include the following:
- Ensuring appropriate and pertinent documents are uploaded prior to the patient being scheduled for consultation.
- Summarization of medical records
- Summarization of previous radiological imaging the patient may have had
- A telehealth history and physical
- Preliminary assessment and treatment plan suggestions by the PA
- Preparation and presentation to medical physician
- Create evidence based guidelines and policies for common MSK diagnoses. This includes the following:
- An assessment of what prior treatments were tried, what was helpful and what was not.
- Assessment of medications the patient has been taking and efficacy.
- Develop guidelines to teach the patient about over the counter medications and therapies that may be helpful in pain management.
- Develop guidelines and policies regarding advising patients about conservative non-interventional treatment for their condition(s) and pain management.
- Help the patient formulate questions to ask their HCP about potential medications and medication changes that may improve their pain control.
- This telehealth service will not be making recommendations or prescribing prescription medication. The counseling will be purely educational about potential medication options and adjustments that may be helpful for improved pain control.
- Assist in developing a 2nd opinion program by using evidence-based third party and current ASH resources (e.g., the IEG database) regarding the efficacy of MSK treatments, therapies, interventions, and surgeries. The goal is to arm the patient with evidenced based information to help guide the patient in formulating questions for discussion with their HCP about treatment options.
- Assist and support the development and ongoing management of the Musculoskeletal and related Medical Telehealth program including, but not limited:
- Interviews
- Mentoring
- Provider Training
- Provider Network Management
- Program development
- Work with IT on both the patient and clinician facing workflows.
- Work with IT on customizing the Electronic Health Record.
- Coordinate activities across organizational teams in support of corporate goals.
- Effectively communicate rationale for clinical decision making to peers using evidence/outcomes-based principles and professional experience.
- Support clinical credentialing and medical record review of Network Practitioners as needed.
- Collaborate with senior management and various departments regarding clinical program, policies, and protocol development and implementation.
- Review files in regulatory, accreditation, health plan, and medical group audits as required.
- Conduct outreach calls as assigned.
- Participate in Clinical Quality Administration and Clinical Quality Evaluation workgroups.
- Promote a productive Team environment.
- Participate in clinical article review activities as assigned.
- Work independently, receiving minimal guidance and supervision.
- Manage conflicts of interests, including but not limited to requesting clinical medical necessity verification reviews or other quality case reviews to be reassigned should the activity involve a prior patient.
- Perform administrative task to support responsibilities including:
- Completing any required and necessary trainings,
- Completing clinical continuing education requirements and necessary actions to maintain licenses.
- Completing company training and review of policy to ensure understanding and adherence to company policy regarding the separation of the clinical services and additional tasks as assigned.
- Completes trainings to understand the necessary patient / member confidentiality regarding the decisions made about members/patients to avoid violating any privacy regulations and to avoid inappropriate influence decision making across the functions by the staff member or others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Professional degree in Physician Assistant from accredited college or university required.
- Additional post graduate degree in same or related field preferred.
- 5 years of clinical experience, ideally in the area of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or Orthopedics, Neurology, Pain Management, Family Medicine Sports Medicine, or related applicable experience in conservative MSK care required.
- Understanding of Musculoskeletal Medical Care including conservative management, interventional and procedural management, over the counter and prescription medication management using evidence-based guidelines and best practices required.
- Ability to learn to use applicable computer and software systems including, but not limited to, Outlook, MS-WORD, IHIS, ASHCore, ASHLink, ASHCare and EHR.
- Work in collaboration and under the guidance of Sr Medical Director, and also independently, receiving minimal guidance and supervision but appropriately consulting Sr Medical Director as needed, particularly for complex cases.
- Must be willing and able to acquire additional unrestricted state licensure to practice in his/her health care specialty based on business needs.
- Must meet ASH clinical credentialing requirements.
