Payroll Administrator (Part-Time)

Hours: 20 Hours per week (Monday–Friday, typically 10:00am–2:00pm)

Salary: £38,000 FTE (£19,000 Pro Rata)

We're looking for a knowledgeable payroll professional to join our growing Finance team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working within payroll but is looking for a better work-life balance without the responsibility of managing the entire payroll function.

The Role

You'll be responsible in the day-to-day administration of payroll across our group of companies, providing support and guidance across all 18 payrolls. Working closely with the payroll manager, you'll ensure payroll information is maintained accurately and in line with HMRC legislation and company procedures.

During each payroll, you will take responsibility for a defined allocation of payroll administration tasks, supporting the timely and accurate processing of your assigned payrolls. Alongside this, you'll develop a thorough understanding of all payrolls across the group, enabling you to provide support, answer queries and assist colleagues whenever required.

  • Supporting the preparation of payroll information for processing
  • Managing your own allocation of payrolls across 17 payrolls within 16 legal entities
  • Maintaining accurate employee payroll records
  • Processing new starters, leavers and employee changes
  • Updating salary amendments, contractual changes and payroll records
  • Verifying payroll data and resolving discrepancies prior to processing
  • Responding to payroll queries from employees and managers
  • Supporting workplace pension administration
  • Maintaining payroll systems, audit records and documentation
  • Reconciling payroll data between Workday and payroll systems
  • Supporting month-end and year-end payroll activities
  • Providing additional payroll support during annual leave and peak periods
  • Ensuring compliance with HMRC legislation, GDPR and company procedures
  • Building positive working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Support on new and ongoing payroll projects

Flexibility to work additional hours will occasionally be required to provide holiday cover or support during busy payroll periods, with advance notice wherever possible.

As trust and familiarity with the role develop, we'll offer increased flexibility around working hours where possible to suit both you and the needs of the business. There may also be opportunities to increase your contracted hours in the future, making this an excellent opportunity for someone seeking long-term career growth.

About You

You'll be an organised, proactive payroll professional who enjoys working independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Essential

  • Previous payroll administration experience managing multi entity payrolls
  • Experience managing your own payroll workload independently
  • Strong understanding of HMRC guidance and payroll legislation
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and consistently meet deadlines
  • Experience working remotely or from home
