Nessus Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Description

* This position is contingent upon a future opening with Gunnison.

Salary: $110,000 - $124,000/year

The Nessus SME provides expert-level support for the Tenable Nessus vulnerability management platform, ensuring accurate scanning, risk prioritization, and remediation guidance across all client systems.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Review and identify improvements to scanning architecture.
• Integrate with other scanning/cybersecurity tools and database repositories.
• Develop scanning strategies for enterprise, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Develop dashboards, metrics, and custom reports to communicate findings.
• Stay current on Tenable/Nessus updates, plugins, and vulnerability detection methods.
• Support scanning activities and requests.
• Support Nessus troubleshooting activities with Nessus system admin as needed.

Requirements

• 7+ years of cybersecurity experience with 5+ years as a Nessus SME.
• Expert knowledge of vulnerability management processes and Tenable tool suite.
• Experience integrating Nessus with enterprise SIEM/CDM platforms.
• Familiarity with RMF, NIST SP 800-53, and federal vulnerability management requirements.
• Experience working with Windows, Linux, network devices, and cloud environments. 
• Hands-on experience with Nessus/Tenable vulnerability scanning tools. 
• Experience conducting authenticated and unauthenticated scans. 
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills

Clearance Requirement: Active Secret clearance required.

The salary range for this position depends upon multiple factors including location, the individual's knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, and contract-specific budget constraints and organizational requirements.
