As part of the development of its offshore engineering activities, our client, an international leader in the design and delivery of floating production units, is looking for an experienced Naval Engineer specialising in Naval Architecture to strengthen its engineering team in the Netherlands.

You will join a multidisciplinary Product Design Department bringing together expertise in naval architecture, hull and topsides structures, electrical engineering, instrumentation and other engineering disciplines.

You will contribute to the design and optimisation of complex floating units, particularly FPSOs (Floating Production Storage and Offloading units), covering all stages of engineering, from conceptual studies through detailed design and project execution.

This position offers the opportunity to apply your technical expertise to large-scale international projects while taking on increasing responsibilities in technical coordination and project leadership.

Your responsibilities

Reporting to the Naval Architecture discipline, you will contribute to engineering projects at various stages and help maintain and develop the team's technical expertise.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Naval architecture engineering and design: Perform and oversee naval architecture studies, from conceptual design through detailed engineering, ensuring high-quality, reliable and cost-effective solutions.
  • Loading and stability: Contribute to loading calculations and stability assessments for floating units.
  • Equipment and layout design: Work on accommodation design, deck equipment and lifesaving equipment.
  • Project development: Contribute to conceptual studies, Pre-FEED and FEED phases, as well as EPCI projects, depending on project requirements.
  • Technical interfaces: Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines, including marine systems, electrical and instrumentation, piping, HVAC, process engineering and technical safety.
  • Shipyard and procurement support: Provide technical input to shipyard bidding processes, procurement activities and related engineering work.
  • Testing and compliance: Contribute to inclining experiments and ensure that designs comply with applicable classification society rules and international requirements.
  • Technical coordination: Depending on your experience, take on the role of Discipline Lead Engineer (DLE), coordinating the activities of a team of up to three or four Naval Architects, supported by designers and drafters.

You will also contribute to knowledge sharing and the continuous improvement of engineering methods and standards, with a focus on technical quality and cost efficiency.

Requirements

Your profile

  • You hold a BSc or MSc degree in Naval Architecture, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • You have at least 7 years of relevant experience in naval architecture, ideally gained in the engineering and design of complex floating units.
  • You have in-depth technical knowledge of naval architecture, covering both conceptual and detailed design.
  • You preferably have experience working on floating production units or vessels for the Oil & Gas industry, such as FPSOs, FSOs, oil and chemical tankers, drilling units, semi-submersibles or TLPs.
  • You have a sound understanding of interfaces with related engineering disciplines, including marine systems, electrical and instrumentation, piping, HVAC, process engineering and technical safety.
  • You are familiar with the rules and requirements of major classification societies, including ABS, DNV, Bureau Veritas and Lloyd’s Register, as well as international Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) requirements.
  • You are an experienced user of NAPA, an essential tool for naval architecture studies.
  • You are comfortable working in an international, multidisciplinary environment and demonstrate strong communication skills, technical autonomy and a collaborative approach.

Previous experience with a major offshore engineering company would be an advantage.

Benefits

  • 2-year contract
  • Fully remote role with occasional travel to client sites.
