Collaborate with producers to translate musical ideas into remix filters for the Hook app. Test and build automation tools for music expression and perform QA to ensure high music quality and seamless user experience.

About Hook

Hook is a social music platform, backed by top-tier investors, building the next generation of music discovery, fan expression, and creator growth. We turn the songs people love into sounds they can play with — enabling fans and creators to reimagine music through intuitive, remix-friendly experiences with zero learning curve. By partnering directly with artists, labels, and rightsholders, Hook ensures music is discovered, shared, and expressed in ways that respect and reward the people behind it. At Hook, music isn't just consumed — it's experienced, expressed, and made personal.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Music Expressions Intern to join our Studio team on a full-time, remote basis.

This role sits at the intersection of music theory, signal processing, and engineering. You'll work directly with producers and engineers to build the remix filters that Hook users play with every day — translating musical ideas into sounds, contributing to the tools that automate that process, and ensuring the creation experience feels seamless from end to end.

This role reports to the Head of Studio Platform.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with producers to translate musical ideas into remix filters available to users in the Hook app

  • Work with the Music Expression Lead to test and build tools that automate the translation of musical ideas into remix filters

  • QA the user experience across Hook Studio, with a focus on music quality and seamlessness

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree in computing of some kind — does not need to be completed

  • Programming experience in Python, and ideally Swift or C++, in a music context

  • Deep understanding of music theory, including rhythm, harmony, melody, and timbre

  • Familiarity with signal processing concepts

  • Strong verbal and visual communication skills — able to articulate abstract musical concepts to engineers and non-musicians alike

Why this role matters

Hook's creation experience lives and dies on the quality and variety of sounds users can play with. This intern will be directly responsible for expanding that library and improving the tools that make it scale — working at the core of what makes Hook different from every other music app.
