You will apply military legal expertise to evaluate and improve AI systems by assessing their reasoning regarding lawful boundaries and international law. This involves reviewing model responses for legal accuracy, grading performance, and collaborating with experts to resolve complex legal scenarios.
Join a team of domain experts supporting the evaluation and improvement of AI systems for government and defense applications. You will apply military legal expertise to assess how models reason about lawful boundaries, international law, and operational policy.
Develop detailed scenarios that test the boundaries of lawful policy review and military support.
Assess whether legal taxonomy boundaries are defensible and consistently apply the law of armed conflict and international law.
Review and grade model responses for legal reasoning, clarity about limitations, and treatment of uncertainty.
Identify cases where a model unnecessarily declines legitimate legal or policy questions.
Provide clear written and verbal analysis, and collaborate with other experts to resolve disputed cases.
Background as a Judge Advocate or substantial experience in international humanitarian law and the law of armed conflict.
Fluency in rules of engagement and understanding of lawful boundaries in military and surveillance operations.
Experience advising on operational legal matters in military or government contexts.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to review policy, distinguish cases, and reason about legal uncertainty.
Teaching, consulting, or advisory experience in military legal or international law contexts is valuable.
Familiarity with AI governance, ethics, or AI-related legal frameworks is a plus.
