You will be responsible for designing and building an Azure-based cloud environment as code while porting existing platform components from GCP. Additionally, you will support application teams during their migration and facilitate knowledge transfer through documentation and pairing.
CodiLime is a software and network engineering industry expert and the first-choice service partner for top global networking hardware providers, software providers and telecoms. We create proofs-of-concept, help our clients build new products, nurture existing ones and provide services in production environments. Our clients include both tech startups and big players in various industries and geographic locations (US, Japan, Israel, Europe).
While no longer a startup - we have 250+ people on board and have been operating since 2011 we’ve kept our people-oriented culture. Our values are simple:
Act to deliver.
Disrupt to grow.
Team up to win.
We are looking for a Cloud DevOps Engineer to join a project team that makes a Kubernetes-based platform run on Microsoft Azure. The platform runs on Google Cloud today and is deployed to many clusters with GitOps. The team will find what depends on GCP, build a new Azure environment as code, port the platform components to it, and support the customer's application teams while they move their services.
Other things to know:
The project team brings together DevOps, Cloud and Platform Engineers, who work as CodiLime subject matter experts (SMEs)
We work inside the customer's own repositories, through merge requests reviewed by the customer's Cloud Infrastructure team, and pair with their engineers so that they can run Azure on their own after the project
The customer is a company with teams in Europe, so you will work with a working-hours overlap with Central European Time
The work is phased: it starts with a gap analysis, followed by the platform port and support for the application teams
We work on multiple interesting projects at a time, so we may invite you to an interview for another project if we see that your competencies and profile are well suited for it.
As part of the project team, you will be responsible for:
Analysing the existing GCP-based platform and cloud infrastructure code, and proposing an Azure equivalent for every GCP dependency
Designing the target Azure environment: subscriptions, networking, AKS, identity, secrets, DNS, container registry, storage and databases
Building the Azure environment as code with Terraform, through the customer's review and deployment flow
Porting platform components to AKS with the same GitOps workflow (Flux) as on GCP, following the existing per-provider patterns
Preparing CI/CD changes and automation so that every release is built, deployed and tested on Azure
Helping choose how to manage cloud resources from Kubernetes in a way that avoids new vendor lock-in (for example Azure Service Operator, Crossplane or Terraform)
Supporting the customer's application teams when they move their services, and fixing the platform issues they find
Handing over knowledge to the customer's engineers through pairing, documentation and a final knowledge-transfer session
As a Mid/Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer, you should ideally meet the following criteria:
4+ years of experience in DevOps, cloud or platform engineering roles
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, in particular AKS, networking, identity (Microsoft Entra, workload identity), Key Vault, Azure DNS and storage
Good knowledge of Google Cloud (GCP), in particular GKE, IAM, Cloud DNS, storage and managed databases, enough to understand an existing GCP setup and map it to Azure
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, including modules and a reviewed workflow
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, for example GitLab CI, with automated tests and releases
Good knowledge of Kubernetes and Linux
Experience with GitOps, for example Flux or Argo CD
Experience with production-grade deployments
Knowledge of a scripting language (for example Bash or Python)
Experience working with customers or technical stakeholders on a shared codebase
Fluency in English (minimum B2 level)
Willingness to learn: you will face challenges that require creativity, individual solutions and teamwork
Readiness to work in an international environment, with working hours that overlap with Central European Time
Experience with a migration between public clouds, or with multi-cloud Kubernetes
Experience with Config Connector, Azure Service Operator, Crossplane or similar tools that manage cloud resources from Kubernetes
Knowledge of secrets management with External Secrets, SOPS and cloud key management
Experience with cert-manager, external-dns and ingress or load balancing on Kubernetes
Experience with Atlantis, Nix or moon
Knowledge of networking in the public cloud (virtual networks, private clusters, NAT, VPN)
Microsoft Azure, HashiCorp Terraform or Kubernetes (CKA, CKAD, CKS) certifications
Flexible working hours and approach to work: fully remotely, in the office or hybrid
Professional growth supported by internal training sessions and a training budget
Solid onboarding with a hands-on approach to give you an easy start
A great atmosphere among professionals who are passionate about their work
The ability to change the project you work on
