  • LOCATION: Remote (NYC-based; approximately 1 day per week in Hauppauge, NY)
  • SALARY RANGE: $125,000–$150,000, based on experience

About the Role

As a Mid-Level Elder Care Attorney, you will independently guide elderly clients and their families through Medicaid planning, Crisis Care, and Crisis Medicaid matters. You will manage cases from initial consultation through resolution, providing practical legal guidance during situations that are often time-sensitive and emotionally complex.

The position is primarily remote, with approximately one day per week in the Hauppauge office and local travel as needed to serve clients throughout New York City's five boroughs. Brooklyn-based candidates are strongly preferred because a significant portion of the firm's clients are located there, although qualified attorneys living elsewhere in NYC will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Own and independently manage elder-law matters involving Medicaid planning, long-term care, and Crisis Medicaid planning.
  • Guide elderly clients and their families through urgent care and Medicaid decisions with clear, practical legal advice.
  • Develop Medicaid planning strategies based on each client's financial, family, and long-term-care circumstances.
  • Manage Crisis Care and Crisis Medicaid matters where families require timely planning and legal support.
  • Conduct client consultations and clearly explain complex Medicaid and elder-law requirements in accessible terms.
  • Advise clients on estate-planning documents commonly connected to elder-law matters, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives.
  • Maintain organized case files, documentation, deadlines, and client communications from intake through resolution.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients and family members while maintaining professionalism during sensitive or stressful situations.
  • Serve clients throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island as needed.
  • Collaborate with the firm's legal and support teams while maintaining the autonomy expected of an experienced attorney.

Requirements

Must-Have:

  • Active admission to the New York State Bar.
  • Relevant professional experience practicing Elder Law.
  • Hands-on experience with Medicaid planning.
  • Experience handling Crisis Care and/or Crisis Medicaid planning matters.
  • Experience advising elderly clients and their families on long-term-care and Medicaid-related needs.
  • Ability to independently manage client matters and provide direct, client-facing legal guidance.
  • Ability to serve clients throughout NYC's five boroughs and travel to the Hauppauge office approximately once per week.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience preparing or advising on wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives.
  • Brooklyn-based location or established familiarity with serving Brooklyn clients.
  • Experience managing time-sensitive Medicaid applications or planning matters.
  • Strong knowledge of the broader estate-planning issues that frequently intersect with elder-law cases.
