Lead the configuration, enhancement, and support of Microsoft 365 security and compliance capabilities for a public-sector organization. Partner with stakeholders to design data protection policies, manage identity controls, and ensure long-term security governance.
You will help strengthen the security, compliance, and governance of a large Microsoft 365 environment supporting a California public-sector organization. In this part-time lead role, you will use your hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, Defender, Entra ID, and data protection controls to reduce risk and support secure collaboration. You will guide configuration decisions, document best practices, and partner with technical stakeholders to improve the organization's long-term security posture. Your expertise will directly support the responsible protection of sensitive information across Microsoft 365 cloud services.
Anticipated start date: September 11, 2026, subject to contract award, execution, and project needs
WORKSITE: Remote within the United States; supporting a California-based client
WORK SCHEDULE: Part-time; variable hours Monday–Friday during 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Pacific Time, based on project needs
PAY RATE: $75.00 - $85.00/hour W2
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Lead the configuration, enhancement, and support of Microsoft 365 security and compliance capabilities.
Design and maintain data loss prevention policies, information protection controls, sensitivity labels, retention settings, eDiscovery, auditing, and logging.
Configure and optimize Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender, Entra ID, Conditional Access, identity and access controls, and related Microsoft cloud security services.
Partner with client technical teams and business stakeholders to assess requirements, explain risks, recommend solutions, and provide ongoing knowledge transfer.
Review security and compliance configurations, identify gaps, support remediation, and maintain clear documentation of controls, changes, processes, and procedures.
Provide technical leadership for Microsoft 365 security governance, architecture decisions, implementation standards, and compliance best practices.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
At least three years of hands-on experience configuring and supporting Microsoft 365 security and compliance capabilities; senior or lead-level experience strongly preferred.
Advanced experience with Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft 365 Security and Compliance tools, Entra ID/Azure AD, DLP, sensitivity labels, eDiscovery, audit logging, and Conditional Access.
Relevant Microsoft security, identity, compliance, or Microsoft 365 certifications are strongly preferred; CISSP, CISM, or comparable credentials are a plus.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical risks and requirements for both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Experience supporting government, healthcare, insurance, or another highly regulated environment is strongly preferred.
Must be available for variable part-time hours during Pacific Time business hours and able to work independently while coordinating closely with client and project teams.
