SUMMARY 

The Marketing Communications Specialist supports the execution of ESA’s marketing, communications, and digital growth initiatives across core programs including the Electronic Security Expo (ESX), National Training School (NTS), ESA membership, and other industry programs.

This role is responsible for developing content, executing campaigns, and maintaining ESA’s presence across email, web, paid media, print, social media, and emerging channels. It combines traditional marketing communications with modern digital marketing functions, including email optimization, SEO and AI visibility, paid advertising, and marketing automation.

The Marketing Communications Specialist works closely with internal teams, contributors, and external partners to ensure messaging is accurate, consistent, and aligned with organizational goals, while contributing to measurable growth in engagement, visibility, and conversion. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Email Marketing and Automation

  • Execute email campaigns, including: 
  • Promotional content
  • Newsletters 
  • Automated drip and nurture campaigns
  • Build and manage campaigns from development through deployment (segmentation, content, testing, scheduling)
  • Support development of automated workflows for event promotion, member engagement and e-commerce
  • Monitor performance and optimize for engagement and conversion 

SMS and Emerging Channels

  • Support the rollout and execution of SMS marketing campaigns 
  • Assist with message development and campaign deployment 
  • Identify opportunities to integrate SMS into broader campaign workflows 

Website Management, SEO, and Digital Visibility

  • Maintain ESA websites and ensure content is current and accurate
  • Execute SEO best practices, including metadata optimization, keyword usage, internal linking, and image alt text
  • Conduct keyword research to support content development 
  • Structure content to improve visibility across search engines and AI-driven platforms 

Paid Media and Retargeting

  • Lead the execution of paid campaigns, including Google Ads and retargeting 
  • Monitor performance and recommend optimizations 
  • Ensure alignment between paid, email, and organic campaign efforts 

Campaign Execution

  • Support planning and execution of integrated marketing campaigns
  • Recommend ideas and process improvements to increase efficiency and performance 

Social Media and Digital Presence

  • Support ESA’s presence across all social channels
  • Assist with content creation, scheduling, and performance monitoring 
  • Identify opportunities to expand reach and engagement 

Webinars and Other Video Distribution

  • Support execution and promotion of webinars, podcasts, and digital content initiatives 
  • Assist in repurposing content across channels to extend reach and engagement
  • Research additional platforms and opportunities to expand visibility 

Collaboration and Industry Engagement

  • Work with ESA staff, members, volunteers, vendors, and partners 
  • Maintain alignment with ESA messaging, programs, and priorities 
  • Support professional communication across internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain a current understanding of ESA programs, priorities, and industry trends to ensure accurate and aligned messaging

 OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist fellow staff as needed when preparing to attend trade shows, events, or when meeting a deadline
  • Participate in trade shows, events, etc. as necessary
  • Travel, as necessary, to conduct research for articles and provide support for various meetings and events
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

 This position is not responsible for the supervision of any other ESA employee. Supervision received from Director Marketing. Work independently with minimal supervision. External contacts include ESA volunteers and members, instructors, trade media contacts, state industry leaders as well as state and federal regulatory personnel.

 QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 3–5 years of experience in marketing, communications, digital marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and engaging content across multiple formats 
  • Experience executing digital marketing initiatives, including: 
  • Email marketing campaigns and automation 
  • Paid advertising (Google Ads, retargeting) 
  • Basic SEO best practices
  • Robust experience with email marketing (Mailchimp preferred)
  • Working knowledge of website content management and editing
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) for basic design edits and collaboration with designers 
  • Understanding of social media platforms and best practices for B2B engagement
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines 
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter while collaborating effectively with internal teams and external partners 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy across all work 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, members, and industry stakeholders

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Non-profit and/or Association experience
  • Remote work experience
  • Electronic life safety and security industry experience 
  • Experience working within a membership structure 
  • Experience working with volunteers and volunteer leadership as a current or previous job responsibility 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION/WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Work is primarily sedentary in nature; no special demands are required. Extended periods of public involvement may be necessary when participating in trade shows or ESA events. Must be mobile enough to move from one location to another as needed, and to interact and communicate with attendees. Work is performed in an office setting with the exception of trade shows or ESA events. Minimal travel is required.
