About the Company
Based in San Diego, California, Eyes On Eyecare is a technology and healthcare information company shaping the future of eyecare. Through brands like Eyes On Eyecare, Glance, and npiQ, we deliver web applications, accredited education, and data products to tens of thousands of eyecare professionals. Our mission is to support the people who care for vision with the tools, knowledge, and connections they need to do their best work.
The Content Studio is our new engine for content marketing and client-associated content — sponsored content, independent editorial supported by advertising, custom partner programs, and other client-related and client-adjacent deliverables. As our pipeline of revenue-related deliverables grows, the Studio is where exceptional, activated medical content gets made on behalf of partners.
About the Role
Eyes On Eyecare understands the balance between audience curation and business development. We're hiring a talented, team-oriented Managing Editor to own and operate content production for the Content Studio.
Client Services quarterbacks each engagement — the relationship, the brief, and the timeline at the client level. You own the content: its quality, accuracy, voice, and on-time delivery are yours. You translate what a partner is trying to accomplish into work that is accurate, polished, useful, and appropriate for a clinical audience — content that serves the partner and the professional eyecare audience at the same time.
This is a critical role for a growing pipeline of revenue-related deliverables, and it carries real ownership. You'll be surrounded by a supportive Content team, and as volume scales you'll build the systems, standards, and workflows — and eventually the team — that let the Studio grow.
This role reports to the VP of Content and sits within the Content department, working closely with Client Services, Sales, and the rest of Content.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Production & Delivery
- Own editorial production for client-related and client-adjacent content, from concept and outline through draft, packaging, and final delivery.
- Create, edit, and deliver high-quality medical and professional content on behalf of clients — to standard, and on the dates revenue depends on.
- Translate client goals into content concepts and deliverables that are accurate, useful, audience-appropriate, and strategically aligned.
Client Partnership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Client Services as they quarterback timelines, client expectations, and project flow — translating client goals and media-buyer pressures into work the team can actually execute.
- Join and contribute to client calls, including brainstorms, kickoffs, check-ins, and content development conversations.
- Represent the content function with professionalism and confidence, speaking fluently between Content, Client Services, and clients.
Assignment, Freelance, & Workflow Management
- Decide what you take on yourself and what you assign out — and to whom — acting as the assignment editor across our content bench and freelance network.
- Source, brief, and manage freelance writers, contractors, and KOLs, holding them to the Studio's quality bar. Be ready to work with some of the top medical leaders of the profession.
- Proactively surface risk related to timelines, scope, medical accuracy, or client expectations before it becomes a problem.
Quality, Medical Rigor, & Editorial Integrity
- Uphold medical-content rigor across every deliverable: AMA style, factual precision, and careful language.
- Hold the firewall between sponsor-supported content and independent content, and protect that line even under deadline and revenue pressure.
- Recognize and redirect unsupported claims, overpromising, promotional creep, and inappropriate sponsor influence.
- Shepherd works through medical-legal / regulatory review where the subject matter requires it.
Building the Studio to Scale
- Establish the repeatable templates, workflows, and quality standards that make excellent output predictable as volume grows.
- Help define how the Studio operates day to day, and hire, onboard, and lead direct reports as the function expands.
Who This Role Is For
This role is the right fit if you:
- Are passionate about medical content — AMA style, and the attention to detail and careful language medical content demands — and are ready to create exceptional work.
- Understand client needs — the goals of the advertiser and the pressure the media purchaser is under — and are ready to be a true partner, not just a vendor.
- Move fluidly between rooms — equally activated in an internal production call and an external client brainstorm, and fluent in the languages of content, client services, and clients.
- Are real — you know what the team can deliver by a given date, and you stay approachable, proactive, and reasonable while juggling many priorities at once.
- Understand the drive to scale revenue through activated, high-quality content — and know exactly where sponsor-supported content ends and independent content begins.
- Take pride in the craft — a clean draft, a sharp turnaround, a deliverable that leaves both the client and the audience better off.
- Operate well in an entrepreneurial environment where the playbooks, templates, and quality standards are still being built — because you'll be the one building them.
Who This Role Is Not For
This role is not the right fit if you:
- Want a role that's purely writing and editing your own copy, with no client contact or business context.
- Are uncomfortable partnering with Client Services and Sales, or see commercial goals as inherently in conflict with good content.
- Need a fully built playbook on day one and prefer established process over building it yourself.
- Treat the line between sponsor-supported and independent content as a nuisance rather than part of the craft.
- Prefer to stay in one lane rather than move between internal production and client-facing conversations.
Required Qualifications
- Approximately 8 years of experience in editorial, medical communications, healthcare publishing, content marketing, agency, or a related field.
- Strong experience creating or editing medical, healthcare, or life-sciences content.
- Experience working on client-facing, sponsor-supported, custom, branded, or content marketing materials.
- Familiarity with AMA style and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy, clarity, and detail.
- Strong editorial judgment, including the ability to recognize unsupported claims, overpromising, promotional language, and inappropriate sponsor influence.
- Comfort participating in client calls and representing the content function with professionalism and confidence.
- Strong project awareness and the ability to juggle multiple priorities without losing sight of deadlines or details.
- Experience assigning, managing, or editing freelance writers or contractors.
- Excellent communication skills across internal and external stakeholders, with a collaborative, practical, team-oriented working style.
- The ability to operate independently in a growing function that will eventually include direct reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with medical-legal / MLR review and the care required around regulated topics (e.g., prescription and DTC content).
- Experience building templates, workflows, and quality standards for a new or growing content function.
- Ophthalmology, optometry, or eyecare experience is welcome but not required; broader medical content experience is highly valued.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, technology-forward healthcare media or education company.

- Health insurance (90% silver plan coverage)
- Vision & dental insurance
- 401(k) + Annual Profit Share
- PTO, Sick Time, Paid Holidays, Flex Time, Bonus Time Off
