Position Overview

Responsible for the overall tactical and strategic direction and management of projects through designated project managers, ensuring consistency of process across projects, and internal and external customer satisfaction with the projects.


This position may be filled at the Manager or Senior Manager level based on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities


Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)

  • Define and manage project scope, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer expectations
  • Oversee project budgets, ensuring financial accountability and cost-effectiveness
  • Allocate and manage resources across multiple projects, balancing priorities and capacity constraints
  • Manage project risks and issues, developing mitigation strategies as needed
  • Act as the first escalation point for project issues management, and interface regularly with customers alongside individual project managers in support of projects.
  • Effectively communicate project progress and updates to key risks or issues on a regular basis
  • Facilitate meetings and workshops to gather and document requirements as well as drive and document decision-making
  • Manage project reporting deliverables, ensuring Project Managers complete required tasks by deadlines
  • Create, or assist with, project status presentations for stakeholders and leadership
  • Promote best practices and continuous improvement in project delivery


 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of project, principles, methodologies, and best practices, including Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid frameworks.
  • Knowledge of project governance, risk management, budget management, resource planning, and change management practices.
  • Understanding of strategic planning, business operations, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and technologies, including Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Azure DevOps, Jira, Power BI, and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Knowledge of financial management principles, including forecasting, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, competing demands, and complex projects.
  • Effective negotiation, conflict resolution, and relationship management skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes.
  • Ability to lead and oversee a portfolio of complex, cross-functional projects and programs that support organizational goals and strategic priorities.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with executive leaders, business partners, and stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to establish project management standards, governance structures, and best practices that drive operational excellence and successful project delivery.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks while proactively addressing issues and dependencies.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Ability to assess resource needs, allocate resources effectively, and optimize team performance.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, adapt to changing priorities, and lead teams through complex organizational environments.



Physical Abilities

  • Sufficient fine motor skills for the use of computers, calculators with an ability to withstand repetitive keyboarding for extended periods of time.
  • Visual and communications ability adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position) and at or above shoulder height on occasion.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry, and lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to travel by vehicle or aircraft, and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.


Minimum Qualifications


Manager

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Ability to pass a background and drug screening.
  • Must have identification compliant with the Real ID Act at time of hire.
  • Must be able to obtain Department of Energy PIV access badge.


Sr. Manager

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 or more years of leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • PMI-PMP or PMP-ACP certification, or a commitment to obtain one.
    Business improvement training (Six Sigma, Agile, or related) certifications 


Compensation: 

    Manager- $ 97,751.87 - $183, 340.00

    Senior Manager- $114,941 – $236, 975
