Do you want to be the first to report breaking news, shaping the headlines for a UK audience? We’re seeking a Live News Reporter to join our dynamic team on a 12-month fixed term contract, playing a pivotal role in delivering continuous, high-quality news coverage for our UK newsroom during UK overnight hours. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the centre of live news for our national brands, turning breaking developments into compelling coverage in real time for titles including the Daily Mirror, Daily Express & Daily Star as well as many of our regional brands including the Manchester Evening News, MyLondon and many more.

Based in Australia, this critical position will monitor, report, and publish digital breaking stories and major developments during the day, ensuring our UK audience wakes up to timely, accurate, and engaging news. If you possess strong editorial judgment, a keen eye for spotting a story and have a good working knowledge of the UK, we want to hear from you!

This role is a 12- month fixed term contract and is home based.  We are only looking for candidates currently based in Australia and you must have the right to work in Australia as we cannot provide sponsorship.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

This fast-paced role focuses on capturing breaking UK and international news and trending topics. Working independently on a flexible shift rota (including weekends), you will drive coverage while the main UK/daytime team is offline. Responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring wires and social media and conducting fast-turnaround interviews and desk research to publish accurate, audience focussed stories.

• Enhancing articles with relevant audio, video, and social embeds, while using approved AI tools to streamline content creation and optimisation

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an ambitious, self-driven journalist with proven digital newsroom experience and an instinct for what captivates UK readers. You are confident at making editorial decisions in a fast-moving environment. 

• Outstanding news judgment, strong UK geographical knowledge, and exceptional headline-writing, research, and fact-checking skills.

• Experience with digital publishing tools, CMS platforms, basic video/social editing, and data analytics.

• Proven ability to spot stories via social media, build quick rapport with phone sources, and navigate digital CMS platforms efficiently.

This is a full-time role and a fixed term contract, hired through our Employer of Record (EOR) partner, as we do not currently have a legal entity in Australia. You’ll enjoy all statutory benefits and protections as per local labor laws.
