MasTec Power Delivery is seeking a Licensed Surveyor to support major transmission line and substation projects across the country. This role will provide professional surveying expertise throughout the project lifecycle, including pre-construction, construction, quality control, and closeout.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in utility, transmission, substation, or heavy civil construction and is comfortable working in both field and office environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional surveying services for major transmission and substation construction projects.
  • Establish and maintain project survey control, benchmarks, and coordinate systems.
  • Perform and oversee boundary, topographic, construction, layout, and as-built surveys.
  • Provide construction layout for transmission structures, foundations, access roads, grading, drainage, underground utilities, and substation facilities.
  • Verify construction activities and completed work against approved plans and specifications.
  • Perform quality-control checks and resolve discrepancies between design and field conditions.
  • Review survey data, calculations, drawings, and technical deliverables.
  • Lead and coordinate survey crews, subcontractors, and third-party survey firms.
  • Support project management, engineering, and construction teams with survey-related technical guidance.
  • Maintain accurate survey records, documentation, and project deliverables.
  • Promote and enforce safe surveying practices on active construction sites.

Qualifications

  • Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS/PS) license; ability to obtain additional state licenses as required.
  • 5+ years of professional surveying experience, preferably in transmission, substation, utility, or heavy civil construction.
  • Strong knowledge of construction surveying, survey control, coordinate systems, and datums.
  • Experience interpreting civil, structural, and electrical construction drawings.
  • Proficiency with GNSS/GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, and survey processing software.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D, TBC (Trimble Business Center) or similar platforms.
  • Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with project, engineering, and construction teams.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work in the field as project requirements dictate.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Experience

  • High-voltage transmission projects, including 345 kV and above.
  • Greenfield and brownfield substation construction.
  • Transmission structure and foundation layout.
  • Large-scale EPC or design-build projects.
  • Multi-state professional surveying licensure.
  • LiDAR, drone/UAS, or other advanced surveying technologies.
