Lead Growth Marketer, Monetization

Our activation team gets new members started. Our retention team keeps paying members around. This role owns the middle: free members who are active, getting value, and not paying yet. Your job is to spot who's ready and give them a reason to say yes.

This role is a senior individual contributor. You do the work yourself. Pull the data, form the hypothesis, build the test, read the result, tell the team what happened. Nobody hands you a test plan. You'll have one upgrade target that's yours, and you'll work closely with Activation, Retention, Product, Engineering, and Data to make it all happen.

This is closer to growth engineering than traditional marketing. The tools we have will get you a long way. Where they don't, you'll build what's missing, with an engineer or with AI.

Active member conversion

• Free to paid conversion for active members in the segments you target, against an upgrade target and a known baseline
• Finding the ready-to-buy moments in product usage data, and building the offers, prompts, and paths that turn them into upgrades
• Mapping the path from activated to paid, messy real-world details included, and fixing where it breaks

Allie as a conversion channel

• Defining where Allie conversations with free members should lead to an upgrade, in the app and in the Allie experience
• Partnering with Product on the free version of Allie so it's built to convert from day one
• Product and Engineering build Allie. You make sure Allie drives upgrades.

What's free and what's worth paying for

• Figuring out which features drive upgrades and which belong in the free plan
• Testing offers, paywall moments, and the story about why paying is worth it
• Bringing the evidence to pricing and packaging decisions, which get made with leadership

Tests are how you get there. Upgrades and revenue are how we keep score.

You get restless when a number sits flat. You don't judge a week by what shipped. You judge it by whether more people paid. When you're behind, you dig in, find another angle, and keep going until it moves.

• You'd rather perfect a plan than ship a test this week
• A missed target feels like someone else's problem
• Fine results feel like a finish line

• 5 to 8 years in growth, conversion, lifecycle, or product-led growth
• Personal ownership of a free to paid, trial to paid, or upsell lift, with the numbers to back it up
• A history of being held to a revenue or conversion target, including at least one time you were behind and closed the gap
• Fluency with product usage data. You turn what you find into testable hypotheses.
• Comfort shipping experiments. You prototype with AI coding tools and work closely with engineers to get changes into production.
• AI in how you work every day: analysis, writing, building, testing
• You run on your own. Give you a target and the context, and you'll figure out the first move.
• You can tailor a message to a specific audience and make paying feel like the obvious next step
• Experience at a subscription or freemium company where users upgrade on their own

Nice to have:

• Performance marketing, paid acquisition, or social targeting
• Small business customers and imperfect, real-world data
• Startup experience, or something you built from scratch

• First 30 days: your first tests are live and at least one target segment is moving against its baseline.
• By month 3: upgrade rates in your target segments are clearly up, and you can show your work caused it.
• By month 6: upgrade rates in your target segments are multiples of where they started. Allie is a proven upgrade channel for free members. The people you converted are still paying 90 days later.

• Compensation & Benefits: $135,000 to $180,000 base salary plus uncapped variable pay tied to your results (see Compensation below).
