What does a K-12 Instructional Design & Development Specialist do?

Key Responsibilities
Instructional Design, Systems & Professional Learning
· Design high-quality instructional resources and professional learning materials aligned to adult learning principles

· Develop and facilitate professional learning sessions across topics such as instructional best practices, pedagogy, MTSS, walkthroughs, assessment, and coaching

· Create model sessions, tools, and guidance that reflect evidence-based instructional practices (including Science of Reading)

· Design and refine instructional systems, including coaching frameworks, observation models, and instructional review processes

· Build coaching models and support the development of instructional coaches

· Develop scalable professional development resources and training materials tailored to state and district needs

Assessment & Test Preparation Programs
· Design and develop preparation programs for: Praxis, ACT, and SAT

· Create aligned instructional materials, practice assessments, and progress monitoring tools

Content & Curriculum Development
· Develop standards-aligned curriculum and instructional materials across: ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Early Literacy

· Ensure alignment to state-specific standards and frameworks

· Create lessons, assessments, and digital resources that are engaging, accessible, and classroom-ready

Tutorial & Intervention Systems
· Design and implement tutorial and intervention programs aligned to MTSS frameworks

· Develop processes, lessons, and materials to support targeted student intervention and acceleration

· Create scalable resources for implementation across schools and districts

Materials and Organization
· Organize and structure materials for broad internal and external use

· Format deliverables for clarity, usability, and scalability

· Manage timelines, deliverables, and cross-project collaboration
