Job DetailsJob Location: FMU - Miami Gardens, FL 33054The Web Master plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity, performance, security, and reliability of Florida Memorial University’s public-facing website. This position is fully remote and is responsible for the technical management of the University’s WordPress website environment, hosting services, and related infrastructure.
This role focuses exclusively on technical website administration. All website content, including text, graphics, and media, will be provided by the Marketing and Public Affairs Department. The Web Master is responsible for publishing, updating, or removing content as directed and approved, ensuring accuracy in implementation and adherence to institutional standards.
Because this is a part-time remote role and does not follow a traditional 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
schedule, the position requires flexibility, defined responsiveness standards, and the ability to occasionally perform work during evenings or weekends as operational needs require.
Essential Functions:
Serve Manage and maintain the University’s WordPress website, including core updates, themes, plugins, and overall system health.
Publish, update, and remove web pages and content as provided and approved by the
Marketing and Public Affairs Department.
Ensure website uptime, performance optimization, and functionality across desktop and mobile platforms.
Monitor and maintain hosting services, coordinate with hosting providers as necessary, and escalate technical issues to vendors when required.
Maintain SSL certificates, domain configurations, and DNS records in coordination with
IMT leadership.
Implement and verify website backups, test restoration procedures periodically, and support disaster recovery planning.
Monitor for security vulnerabilities, apply security patches, and maintain WordPress security best practices.
Ensure website accessibility compliance in alignment with ADA and WCAG standards.
Maintain version logs and documentation of changes, updates, and system modifications.
Provide website analytics and performance reports to IMT and Marketing leadership as requested.
Participate in planning discussions related to website enhancements, redesigns, integrations, or system upgrades.
Coordinate integrations with external systems, forms, or third-party services as directed by
IMT.
Response Time and Availability Expectations:
This position operates under defined service responsiveness standards due to its remote and parttime nature.
Standard Service Requests: Acknowledge receipt of email or text requests within two (2) business hours during agreed working days.
Routine Content Updates: Implement approved updates within one (1) business day unless otherwise prioritized.
High-Priority Requests (time-sensitive announcements, homepage alerts, emergency notices): Acknowledge within one (1) hour and publish within four (4) hours when feasible.
Critical Website Outage or Security Incident: Immediate response expected, including coordination with hosting providers and IMT leadership.
Although the role does not require a fixed daily schedule, the Web Master must maintain predictable availability during mutually agreed working hours.
Occasional evening and weekend work is expected for:
Emergency website outages
Security incidents
Scheduled maintenance windows
Time-sensitive institutional announcements
Major website updates or deployments
The Web Master must maintain reliable internet access and the ability to respond to urgent
institutional needs outside of standard weekday hours when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of WordPress administration, including themes, plugins, security hardening, and performance optimization.
Experience managing web hosting environments (shared, VPS, or cloud-based platforms).
Understanding of DNS, domain management, SSL certificates, and basic server configurations.
Familiarity with website security best practices, malware prevention, and vulnerability monitoring.
Working knowledge of website analytics tools such as Google Analytics or similar platforms.
Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and troubleshooting web-related issues.
Strong written communication skills and ability to respond promptly and professionally.
Ability to manage multiple tasks independently in a remote work environment.
High level of accountability, discretion, and attention to detail.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Web Development, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience managing WordPress websites in a professional environment.
Experience supporting higher education or institutional websites preferred.
Relevant certifications or demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
