Job Title: IGCSE Science Teacher (Grade 9)

Role Overview

We are seeking an analytically minded and passionate Science Educator to lead our Grade 9 (Cambridge Lower Secondary / IGCSE Foundation) students. The role involves delivering a comprehensive science curriculum that integrates Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, ensuring students are well-prepared for their IGCSE examinations in Grade 10.

Key Responsibilities

Biology

  • Cellular Biology: Teach cell structure, specialized cells, and the use of microscopes.

  • Systems: Cover human gas exchange, respiration, and the fundamentals of DNA and inheritance.

  • Ecology: Discuss food webs, ecosystems, and human impact on the environment.

Chemistry

  • Matter & Atoms: Teach the structure of the atom, the Periodic Table, and the properties of elements and compounds.

  • Reactions: Explain the reactivity series, displacement reactions, and the pH scale (Acids and Bases).

  • States of Matter: Guide students through particle theory and thermal expansion.

Physics

  • Forces & Motion: Focus on Newton’s Laws, speed/velocity calculations, and pressure in fluids.

  • Energy: Teach energy transfers, conservation of energy, and renewable vs. non-renewable sources.

  • Electricity: Explain series and parallel circuits, voltage, and current measurements.

Instruction & Lab Management

  • Practical Learning: Plan and supervise weekly laboratory experiments, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.

  • Exam Readiness: Introduce IGCSE-style questioning and marking schemes to familiarize students with international assessment standards.

  • Curriculum Mapping: Align weekly lessons with the Cambridge Secondary 1 Science framework.



Requirements

Key Responsibilities

English (Cambridge Primary English 0058)

  • Phonics & Literacy: Lead advanced phonics sessions and support students in transitioning to fluent reading.

  • Writing Skills: Teach students to plan writing through discussion and use basic punctuation (commas in lists, exclamation marks) and grammar (proper nouns, past/present tense).

  • Comprehension: Guide students in identifying main ideas, predicting story outcomes, and discussing character motivations.

  • Speaking & Listening: Foster a classroom environment where students speak fluently and confidently in varied contexts.

Mathematics (Cambridge Primary Mathematics 0096)

  • Number Sense: Teach counting, ordering, and place value for numbers up to 100.

  • Operations: Build mastery in addition and subtraction (up to two digits) and introduce multiplication (2x, 5x, 10x tables) as repeated addition.

  • Geometry & Measure: Teach identification of 2D and 3D shapes, lines of symmetry, and reading time to 5-minute intervals.

  • Fractions: Introduce the concept of halves and quarters as equal parts of a whole or a set.

Classroom Management & Assessment

  • Lesson Planning: Design engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with the Cambridge Progression Grid.

  • Student Tracking: Conduct regular assessments to monitor progress and identify learning gaps.

  • Parent Communication: Provide detailed feedback to parents regarding student academic and social development.

  • Activity-Based Learning: Use manipulatives, storyboards, and digital tools to make abstract concepts concrete.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.Ed.) or a relevant subject.

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience teaching Cambridge Primary/IGCSE curriculum.

  • Curriculum Knowledge: Strong familiarity with Cambridge Primary Stage 3 frameworks.

  • Soft Skills: High emotional intelligence, patience, and excellent verbal communication in English.
