Role Overview
The IBM Aspera Migration Architect supports an enterprise client separating from its parent company by migrating applications and data transfer infrastructure to a net-new network environment. This contract position focuses on standing up a net-new IBM Aspera environment, designing target-state transfer configurations, and seamlessly integrating legacy customer data transfer pipelines. The architect collaborates with cross-functional product, infrastructure, and platform teams to govern migration readiness, author runbooks, and validate end-to-end connectivity.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Environment Design
• Lead design and setup activities for a net-new IBM Aspera environment to support a newly separated application and infrastructure landscape.
• Assess legacy data transfer workflows, user access controls, endpoint connections, storage dependencies, and configuration parameters to map migration requirements.
• Define target-state Aspera configurations, establishing modern transfer workflows, robust access models, environmental dependencies, and secure integration touchpoints.
Migration Execution & Technical Planning
• Plan, coordinate, and execute the migration or recreation of legacy file transfer configurations, content routing processes, and supporting directories into the new Aspera instance.
• Develop detailed migration procedures, implementation runbooks, validation steps, cutover checklists, and operational handoff documentation.
• Support comprehensive testing and system readiness validation to confirm all transfer workflows, permissions, and network connectivity function as expected.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Governance
• Coordinate with product owners, migration managers, infrastructure providers, and platform engineering teams to track dependencies, resolve blockers, and define migration readiness.
• Identify, escalate, and document architectural risks, database dependencies, and critical decision points that could affect cutover timelines.
Required Qualifications
• Proven, hands-on experience utilizing IBM Aspera in an enterprise file transfer, customer data transfer, or large-scale application migration environment.
• Experience standing up, configuring, and migrating Aspera environments, including transfer workflows, user permissions, and configuration templates.
• Deep understanding of application migration concepts, data transfer dependencies, infrastructure readiness, and application cutover strategies.
• Ability to analyze and translate legacy platform requirements into scalable target-state configuration designs and concrete implementation steps.
• Experience authoring technical procedures, deployment runbooks, migration plans, architectural designs, and validation checklists.
• Strong coordination skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across product teams, infrastructure providers, and migration leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
• Professional experience supporting IT infrastructure separations, corporate divestitures, or cloud-migration initiatives.
• Familiarity with modern network security principles, firewall configurations, and endpoint connectivity protocols.
• Prior experience managing data-transfer migration projects involving highly sensitive customer data or large-scale datasets.
Core Skills & Attributes
• Advanced analytical, technical troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to outline complex technical steps clearly.
• Highly structured approach to managing project tasks, tracking dependencies, and identifying potential system blocks.
• Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, remote environment.
