About Next Care Hospice
Next Care Hospice is seeking an experienced and compassionate physician to serve as our Hospice Medical Director. This is a flexible, part-time opportunity for a physician who is passionate about end-of-life care and values thoughtful, patient-centered medical oversight.
Responsibilities
Provide overall medical direction for the hospice patient-care program
Participate in interdisciplinary group meetings
Review clinical information and complete certifications and recertifications of terminal illness
Review and contribute to patient plans of care
Provide consultation on complex or escalated clinical matters
Review SBAR communications and approve medication and treatment orders based on mutually agreed availability
Participate in quality and program-evaluation activities as required
Perform the nondelegable responsibilities assigned to the Hospice Medical Director
Collaborate with attending physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and hospice leadership
Required Qualifications
Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in California
M.D. or D.O. degree
No disqualifying professional-license disciplinary action
Eligible to participate in Medicare and other federal healthcare programs
Not currently serving as Medical Director or Medical Director Designee for another California hospice, unless legally permitted
Appropriate professional-liability coverage or ability to obtain coverage
Strong communication, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
Hospice or palliative-care experience
Familiarity with Medicare hospice certification and recertification requirements
Experience reviewing hospice eligibility, clinical narratives, and plans of care
