We are seeking Haryanvi Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Haryanvi, an Indo-Aryan language/dialect spoken in the Haryana region of India, is a rare South Asian language sometimes required in asylum and immigration interviews.
Responsibilities
- Provide real-time Haryanvi ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings.
- Interpret accurately, neutrally, and with professionalism in immigration and legal contexts.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
- Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
- Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications
- Native or near-native fluency in Haryanvi and English (knowledge of Hindi is a plus, as many speakers are bilingual).
- 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, community, or government preferred).
- Strong understanding of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
- Excellent telephone communication skills; ability to remain accurate under pressure.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
