AI Summary

The Global Mechanical Design Manager is responsible for owning and setting mechanical design standards and reference architectures across the Volta fleet. They will lead technical decisions regarding cooling strategies and airflow management while coordinating with vendors and consultants to ensure project quality and consistency.

About The Role

The Global Mechanical Design Manager owns mechanical design standards across the Volta fleet — cooling systems, airflow, and the thermal architecture that keeps high-density GPU compute running reliably. You will set the reference designs every project builds from, and act as the technical authority when projects need to deviate from standard.

Working closely with front-end planning, the DSX team and project design leads, you will make sure mechanical design decisions make sense at fleet scale — balancing cooling performance, energy efficiency, constructability and lead times across every project in the pipeline.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Own Volta's mechanical design standards and reference architectures across the fleet

  • Review and approve project-level mechanical design deliverables against fleet standards

  • Lead technical decisions on cooling strategy, airflow management and thermal design for high-density compute

  • Partner with the Precon / FEP function to shape mechanical scope and strategy during front-end planning

  • Coordinate with equipment vendors on cooling equipment selection, lead times and standardisation

  • Support commissioning and the DSX team with mechanical design input for turn-up readiness

  • Manage mechanical design consultants and review their deliverables for quality and consistency

  • Feed lessons learned from live projects back into fleet-wide reference designs

  • Ensure mechanical designs meet applicable codes and efficiency requirements across jurisdictions

What You Bring

  • Significant mechanical design experience on data centre or mission-critical facility projects is essential

  • Deep technical knowledge of cooling systems for high-density compute environments (air or liquid cooling)

  • Experience setting or working within standardised design programmes across multiple projects

  • A track record managing design consultants and reviewing engineering deliverables

  • Strong understanding of how mechanical design decisions affect cost, schedule and constructability

  • Chartered engineer status or equivalent professional qualification is an advantage

  • Willingness to travel across the fleet as needed
