Support a growing government contractor while enjoying the flexibility of a part-time, remote role. As our General Ledger Accountant, you'll play a key role in maintaining financial operations during peak workloads, month-end and year-end close, employee absences, and special projects.

General Description

Under the direction of the Controller, the Part-Time General Ledger Accountant provides flexible accounting support across multiple accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, month-end close, billing, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role serves as an experienced backup resource during peak workloads, month-end and year-end close, and employee PTO while helping ensure continuity of accounting operations. The ideal candidate brings extensive government contracting experience, Deltek Costpoint expertise, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

How You Will Fulfill Your Mission 

• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and review outstanding checks for stale-dated items.
• Maintain amortization and depreciation schedules.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including the preparation, verification, and posting of journal entries.
• Prepare account analyses and timely balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Assist with Accounts Payable functions, including invoice processing, expense report review, payment approvals, and weekly accounts payable processing.
• Assist with Accounts Receivable functions, including customer invoicing, cash receipts, collections support, and billing activities.
• Support Deltek Costpoint billing functions and project setup as needed.
• Prepare and remit monthly/quarterly/annual sales and use tax filings for states in which HSG conducts business.
• Prepare and submit monthly & quarterly IFF filings and payments to GSA
• Assist with financial reporting, ad hoc analyses, and other accounting projects as assigned.
• Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with GAAP, company policies, and government contracting requirements.
• Provide flexible accounting support across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Billing, and other accounting functions to ensure continuity of operations during employee absences, month-end and year-end close, peak workloads, and special projects.
• Collaborate with the Controller and accounting team to identify process improvements and increase operational efficiency.
• Become cross-trained across key accounting functions to strengthen business continuity and departmental resiliency.
• Provide supporting documents for external and internal audits, including but not limited to annual financial statement audits and Incurred Cost Submission (ICS) audits
• Assist with Incurred Cost Submission (ICS) support schedules
• Maintain knowledge of current accounting standards, government contracting regulations, and Deltek Costpoint best practices.
• Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and FAR regulations
• Extensive experience supporting government contractors, including DCAA-compliant accounting environments.
• Experience supporting month-end and year-end close activities with strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Extensive Deltek Costpoint experience; (Version 8 experience preferred.)
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and attention to detail and accuracy; previous experience as an Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or Controller preferred.

• Work Environment: Work is performed in a remote environment. This is a flexible, part-time position with work performed on an as-needed basis. Weekly hours may vary depending on business demands, project workload, employee coverage needs, and month-end or year-end accounting activities. No minimum number of work hours is guaranteed. Occasional work outside of normal business hours may be required to support operational needs.
