Freelance Writer - Rental Market Content (Part-Time)

About this opportunity

Zumper is hiring a mid-level freelance writer to help create city guides and rental market content for our top 25 rental markets. This is a part-time contract role through the end of the year (up to 18 weeks), 16-20 hours per week.

What you'll do

Our goal is to create local, helpful content across our top 25 rental markets in the form of city guides on apartment search pages and editorial blog posts. This isn't simply rewriting data; it's helping renters understand the location and the rental market. The goal isn’t to “sell” a city, but instead to provide context that helps people make informed decisions.

• Review the provided rental data for each market
• Write page copy for each market's city guide that complements its data and charts
• Research and write highly localized editorial blog posts (~3 per market)

We expect this role to be 100% human-written; we want your writing and words on the page, not AI’s. This would be your primary project, though there may be room for additional writing work depending on capacity and fit.

Who you are

• 3–6 years of professional writing experience (or equivalent freelance experience)
• Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail
• Ability to interpret data and research and turn it into clear, engaging copy
• Experience with local, real estate, consumer, or SEO content is a plus
• UX copywriting is a plus
• Ability to write within an established voice while keeping content fresh
• Available 16–20 hours/week through the end of the year

What we offer

• Fully remote
• Part-time contract role - 16-20 hours per week, up to 18 weeks
• The salary range for this role is $35/hour - $40/hour. Where an offer falls within that range depends on your experience, skills, and the cost of labor in your local market.
