The States Project (TSP) focuses on improving Americans’ lives by winning state legislative power and working with lawmakers to achieve goals for the common good.
Our electoral work focuses on winning governing majorities in the states by making state legislative campaigns more effective and better funded. Our policy work provides nonpartisan tools and resources that connect a diverse community of state lawmakers committed to improving lives for the people they serve. \nAs an intern, you will gain valuable educational experience in communications or policy at the state legislative level, and will be provided with opportunities to make connections to support the development of your career. We are currently looking to fill the following intern role:
Lawmaker Communications Intern: This intern will work with the team that supports state lawmakers to improve lives with communications and messaging tools designed specifically in the context of state legislatures.
Responsibilities may include: Researching lawmakers’ media presence, developing media analyses, and assisting with local press monitoring and reporting.
High school diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years of additional study or work experience
Passion for building the power in states to achieve the American Promise.
Exceptional critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
Ability to exercise excellent judgment while handling sensitive and confidential information
Capable of independently managing time and tasks associated with a fast-paced organizationClear communication skills
Compensation:
The salary for this position is $22 per hour*. We will work with you to help you obtain school credit where applicable. All internship opportunities will be remote. Interns are expected to commit up to 30 hours per week during standard U.S. business hours between September 8, 2026 to December 23, 2026.
*The pay rate or range noted for this position is in compliance with the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023, NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, and other state and local laws.
