Position Summary

Support NOAA/NMFS with Endangered Species Act (ESA) Section 7 consultations involving listed species and designated critical habitat. Conduct scientific research, analyze environmental information, and prepare consultation documents to support federal action agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze federal actions affecting ESA-listed species and critical habitat.
  • Conduct research using the best available scientific and commercial data.
  • Draft biological opinions, letters of concurrence, and related consultation documents.
  • Develop environmental baselines, action descriptions, and effects analyses.
  • Review consultation requests and identify information gaps.
  • Coordinate with federal agencies and applicants throughout the consultation process.
  • Support multiple consultation actions and provide technical assistance.
Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree typically expected.
  • Experience with ESA Section 7 consultation, protected species, environmental review, or natural-resource regulation.
  • Strong scientific research, analytical, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to synthesize scientific data into clear, defensible analyses.
  • Ability to coordinate with federal agencies and manage multiple assignments.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and obtain required credentials.
Preferred

  • Experience preparing biological opinions, letters of concurrence, environmental baselines, or effects analyses.
  • Experience with listed marine or anadromous species and critical habitat.
