GAI is seeking an Engineer 2 Transmission Line to join our Power Delivery team working remotely based in Homestead, PA. Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus with the ability to supervise & mentor junior staff, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. The Engineer 2 Transmission Line is responsible for technical leadership and the successful review of client transmission line designs while maintaining the scope, schedule, budget, and quality of projects within GAI’s Transmission & Distribution Division. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills.
Competency
- Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.
Job Responsibilities:
- Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:
- Review and preparation of Specification Packages
- Review and preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings
- Review, design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower is a bonus
- Review, design and Analysis of foundations.
- Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications.
- Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
- Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
- Must demonstrate attention to detail.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
- Implements effective engineering methods, provides technical guidance, and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
- Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.
Education and Training:
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college or university in engineering is required. Preferred a degree in Civil, or Electrical engineering.
- PE Required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of transmission line design concepts and principles.
- Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships.
- 6+ years of experience in transmission line design.
- Required experience with PLS suite (PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE).
- Preferred experience with PLS-TOWER and FAD Tools.

- Designs a complete project, system, component, or process.

Project and Task Management
- Assigns tasks to other technical and non-technical staff.
- Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
- Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
- Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or projects.
Management Responsibility
- Receives general direction on key objectives.
- Receives guidance on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
- Mentors junior staff by providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
- Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
Communication Skills
- Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
