About Redtree
Redtree Engineering specializes in engineering, project management, and construction support services across mission-critical facilities, power systems, industrial projects, and complex infrastructure. Redtree offers 100% remote work for this role. As a growing engineering firm, we've built our team around flexibility from day one, giving engineers the ability to do serious, high-impact power generation design work from anywhere in the U.S., without relocating or commuting to an office.
Position Summary
Redtree Engineering is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support schematic design development, detailed engineering, and field engineering activities for power generation projects, with a focus on coal, natural gas, and gas-fired and combined cycle power plants, as well as emerging data center power infrastructure and behind-the-meter or fully islanded energy projects. We have multiple openings for this role, spanning Mid to Senior levels, so candidates across a range of experience are encouraged to apply.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing engineering team that partners with industry-leading clients to deliver innovative, resilient, and scalable solutions from concept through construction and commissioning, all while working 100% remote.
You Will...
Serve as the technical lead for electrical scope on assigned project areas while coordinating with clients, equipment vendors, and internal disciplines.
Develop electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and equipment layouts for power generation facilities and associated auxiliary systems.
Design and specify medium- and high-voltage electrical systems including switchgear, substations, transformers, protective relaying, grounding systems, and utility interconnections, as well as protection and control (P&C) systems for generation and substation applications.
Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and vendors to develop equipment specifications and resolve technical issues during design and procurement.
Perform electrical system studies including load flow, short-circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, grounding, cable ampacity, harmonic, and transient analyses using ETAP or equivalent software.
Support control system integration and plant automation initiatives for both new-build and modernization projects.
Prepare and review engineering design packages to ensure compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and client specifications.
Coordinate with mechanical, civil, structural, controls, and project management teams to develop integrated and constructible solutions.
Provide field engineering support during construction, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities, including occasional site visits.
Support project scoping, proposal development, budgeting, and schedule estimation for new opportunities.
Develop technical specifications, calculations, reports, and drawing packages throughout all project phases, including feasibility studies, conceptual design, detailed engineering, construction support, and commissioning.
Support clients in evaluating power system reliability, operational performance, equipment upgrades, and future capacity requirements.
If You...
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Have 5+ years of experience designing electrical systems for power generation facilities, with experience in coal, natural gas, gas-fired, combined-cycle, or similar thermal power plants preferred. Open to candidates above this level as well.
Hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license or have the ability to obtain licensure (a huge plus).
Have experience with low-, medium-, and high-voltage power distribution systems, critical electrical infrastructure, and electrical equipment selection.
Possess working knowledge of protection and control systems, relay coordination, switchgear design, and transformer applications.
Have experience performing electrical studies using ETAP or similar analysis software.
Demonstrate familiarity with applicable industry standards and codes, including NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NESC, and utility requirements.
Exhibit strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills, and can work independently in a remote environment.
Thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and project deadlines.
Must be able to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting plant modernization, life extension, retrofit, or uprate projects.
Experience with hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center developments.
Experience with mission-critical electrical systems and redundancy architectures, including N, N+1, and 2N configurations.
Experience with medium-voltage distribution systems, substations, and utility interconnections.
Experience in EPC, EPCM, PM/CM, or Owner's Representative project delivery environments.
Familiarity with renewable energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), microgrids, or behind-the-meter power solutions.
Familiarity with advanced power systems studies, such as EMT modeling and transient analysis.
Prior experience working remotely or in distributed/hybrid engineering teams.
What Redtree Offers
