Position Overview:

Building on the launch of the Mayors AI Forum—the first-ever global coalition of mayors, established by Bloomberg Philanthropies and GovEx to shape how AI is developed and deployed across cities—the Editorial Lead will drive the production of a weekly newsletter that serves as an essential resource for this global network of city leaders.

The newsletter equips mayors and their teams with the intelligence necessary to navigate how AI will transform cities, distilling complex developments into concise, actionable insights.

The Editorial Lead will work closely with Bloomberg Philanthropies and GovEx to shape the publication’s strategic direction and content. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer and editor who thrives working within a collaborative team, is curious about how AI is shaping the public sector, and possesses the professional discretion required to navigate nuanced institutional environments.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Content Generation & Editing: Plan, generate, direct freelance writers, and edit AI-specific content tailored to the pressing challenges cities face.
  • Editorial Strategy: Oversee the goals and creative vision for the weekly newsletter, including the development and maintenance of a comprehensive editorial calendar.
  • Landscape Tracking: Systematically track the global AI research and policy landscape, translating complex developments into compelling, actionable intelligence for city leaders.
  • Partnership Coordination: Develop and maintain partnerships with leaders and networks advancing innovation in cities to source and develop impactful content.
  • Performance Analytics: Rigorously analyze newsletter performance and audience metrics to drive future content strategy and inform editorial decision-making.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate

  • At least 10 years of experience in journalism (reporting and/or editing) or communications focused on technology, AI, urban policy, and/or government innovation.
  • Ability to balance editorial rigor with organizational priorities, stakeholder engagement, and executive audience needs.
  • Experience operating within high-profile institutional environments requiring cross-functional collaboration and thoughtful stakeholder management.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with a demonstrated ability to synthesize complex policy and technology developments into concise, actionable insights for senior decision-makers.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to navigate nuanced policy, political, and institutional environments with professionalism and discretion.
  • Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities facing city governments, particularly in areas such as service delivery, systems reform, or resident engagement.
  • Ability to manage complex projects, timelines, and multiple contractors.
  • An entrepreneurial approach and strong interest in helping cities work better through evidence and learning.
