Job Description

Brief Description:

The Director, Project Management is a senior operational leader within Pipeline and Project Management (PPM) accountable for cross-functional leadership, operational strategy, and integrated execution across high-visibility oncology development programs.

Operating as the "COO of the Asset," the PM serves as the strategic operational partner to the Global Project Lead (GPL). This role oversees complex oncology program often spanning multiple indications, coordinating a network of Project Managers across indication teams to harmonize timelines, resolve cross-indication dependencies, and drive alignment to the overarching asset strategy.

By establishing a single source of truth across enterprise platforms (Planisware and Smartsheet), driving proactive risk mitigation, and framing decision-ready scenarios for leadership, the PM optimizes the critical path to accelerate innovative therapies to patients.

Essential Functions

  • Asset Leadership & Strategy Execution: Partner directly with the Global Project Led to translate the target product profile and clinical development strategy into an executable integrated program plan spanning all target indications. Prepare executive presentations for the asset for governance and executive leaders. Formulate multi-scenario operational models (base-case, accelerated, de-risked) with clear trade-off analyses (speed vs. cost vs. risk vs. value) to provide decision-ready proposals for executive and portfolio governance.
  • Foster High-Performing Teams: Cultivate a purpose-driven, high-performing team culture rooted in psychological safety, transparency, mutual accountability, and urgent collaborative problem-solving across all matrix lines.
  • Multi-PM & Sub-Team Orchestration: Direct and align multiple Project Managers leading specific indication sub-teams and functional workstreams, ensuring harmonized operational standards, milestone alignment, and cohesive delivery across the program.
  • Cross-Functional Matrix Leadership: Lead and influence cross-functional Core Teams (Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, CMC/Technical Operations, Nonclinical, Medical Affairs, and Commercial) without formal authority to deliver against program commitments.
  • Timeline Optimization & Critical Path Delivery: Interrogate project assumptions, resolve operational bottlenecks, and compress cycle times across the late-stage development lifecycle through global regulatory filings (NDA/BLA/MAA) and commercial launch.
  • Cross-Indication Interdependency Management: Map, track, and proactively manage critical dependencies across indications (e.g., clinical trial supplies, safety readouts, shared regulatory dossiers) to safeguard overarching program momentum.
  • Single Source of Truth Governance: Maintain baseline data integrity and transparency across enterprise platforms (Planisware and Smartsheet) for indication milestones, deliverables, and resource allocations.
  • Risk Register & Mitigation Ownership: Actively lead comprehensive asset risk management, maintain dynamic risk registers, quantifying impact and probability, and driving actionable mitigation pathways.
  • Resource & Budget Management: Partner closely with Finance and Resource Management to forecast and monitor project demand, external spend, and capacity requirements across all indications.
  • Executive Communication: Act as the operational spokesperson for the asset, communicating milestone progress, key operational trade-offs, and critical risks to executive leadership and governance committees.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience: Excellent experience biopharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, with at solid dedicated cross-functional R&D project management leadership.
  • Drug Development Lifecycle: Proven expertise guiding projects through the full drug development lifecycle, from early development through clinical phases, regulatory approvals, and commercial launch.
  • Late-Stage & Filings Experience: Demonstrated track record delivering late-stage registrational programs (Phase 2b/Phase 3); direct experience preparing or executing major Health Authority filings (NDA, BLA, MAA, or supplemental sNDA/sBLA) strongly preferred.
  • Therapeutic Expertise: Prior experience leading Oncology development programs (e.g., targeted therapies, immuno-oncology, or biologics) preferred.
  • Multi-Indication & Scale: Proven ability to manage a single program/asset across multiple therapeutic indications while coordinating multiple Project Managers within an integrated asset structure.
  • Matrix Influence: Demonstrated mastery in leading without formal line authority, fostering accountability, and driving consensus across senior cross-functional leaders.
  • Executive Presence: Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to synthesize complex timeline, risk, and resource data into crisp executive summaries.
  • Certifications: PMP, PgMP, or equivalent project management certifications preferred.
  • Enterprise PM Systems: Advanced, hands-on proficiency in Planisware, Smartsheet and Oracle for enterprise scheduling, risk tracking, budget and resource demand management.

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Business, or related field required; Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MS, or MBA) strongly preferred.
  • Certifications: PMP, PgMP, or equivalent project management credentials preferred.
