To achieve our long-term growth and impact objectives, EDF requires bold and creative marketing to increase the visibility and impact of our work among these key audiences. 

The Digital Insights Specialist will be an integral player on the Audience Insights Team, one of three groups comprising the Performance Marketing Team at EDF. This position will help improve the effectiveness of EDF’s marketing and communications by working with various data sources to help the team understand our target audiences and the digital conversations that affect them.

This position will report to the Manager, Audience Insights & Persuasion and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across the Marketing and Communications and Development departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build a solid understanding of our key target audiences through primary and secondary research.
  • Leverage social tools to track and monitor brand and topic conversations across major news outlets and social media channels including X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, BlueSky and Facebook, as needed.
  • Lead the packaging and socialization of audience research for internal stakeholders, especially the Marketing, Membership, Communications, and Mission teams, providing clear guidance on how to apply the insights to their work.
  • Provide input on marketing and communications campaigns targeting key audiences.
  • Work closely with the Social Media Team to identify opportunities and potential areas of concern for EDF to engage in online conversations based on conversation trends and audience needs.
  • Collaborate with the Content Team to leverage conversation data and audience research in web content.
  • Make recommendations based on audience needs and digital conversations during crisis situations.
  • Participate in the design of research, analysis, intelligence gathering and data collection in the audience development process.
  • Create lists of influencers and news outlets that cover key topics related to EDF’s missions and initiatives.
  • Use search trend/keyword tools to surface insights, identify areas of interest, and pinpoint audience questions.
  • Support the identification and selection of data sources, tools, and research partners.
  • Set up systems for stakeholders to monitor news and online engagement.
  • Compile and distribute the in-team newsletter focused on performance metrics and project updates.
  • Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Research, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience using social media listening platforms like SparkToro or Meltwater.
  • Experience monitoring digital conversations for a large organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and Reddit).
  • Comfortable using Microsoft 365 products like Outlook and Excel; and AI tools like CoPilot.
  • Experience utilizing market research tools to surface insights on target audiences.
  • Passion for working with data and deriving insights that can inform strategy.
  • Ability to work independently and in an integrated team setting.
  • Strong communication (written and presentation) skills.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Interest in and support of EDF mission and environmental advocacy.
