Data Platform Lead (Remote)

Join Over99.com — Powering the Future of Crypto Gaming

At Over99.com, we’re building a next-generation crypto gaming platform: fast, data-driven, and player-first.

As we scale, data is becoming one of the most important parts of our platform. We need reliable transactional systems, clean data models, trustworthy reporting, scalable analytics infrastructure, and a long-term data architecture that can support product insights, finance, compliance, fraud detection, player behavior, game performance, and operational decision-making.

We’re looking for a Lead Data Engineer / Data Platform Lead who can take ownership of our data architecture across PostgreSQL, analytics databases, event pipelines, cold storage, and data modeling. You’ll help us design the systems that ensure our data is accurate, scalable, understandable, and useful across the business.

This is a fully remote role. We value autonomy, ownership, clear communication, and practical engineering judgment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the design and evolution of our core data architecture across transactional, analytical, and long-term storage systems.

  • Own and improve PostgreSQL data design, schema structure, indexing strategy, query performance, relationships, constraints, and data integrity.

  • Design, review, and maintain ERDs and data models that clearly represent business logic, system behavior, and domain relationships.

  • Work closely with backend engineers to ensure application data models are scalable, consistent, and suitable for both operational and analytical use cases.

  • Build and improve data pipelines from production systems into analytics databases and reporting layers.

  • Design reliable approaches for data ingestion, replication, transformation, validation, rollups, aggregations, and historical storage.

  • Help define the right architecture for hot, warm, and cold data storage.

  • Support the design of analytics-friendly datasets for reporting, dashboards, product analytics, finance, compliance, and operational monitoring.

  • Help evolve our analytics database strategy, including how we use analytical stores, materialised views, denormalised tables, and aggregation layers.

  • Establish data modeling best practices across the engineering team.

  • Identify and fix data quality issues, including inconsistent schemas, duplicated logic, missing relationships, poor naming, and unreliable reporting sources.

  • Collaborate with backend, product, DevOps, and leadership teams to turn business requirements into clean, scalable data structures.

  • Define best practices for migrations, data retention, archival, backfills, and safe deletion of production data.

  • Mentor engineers on database design, ERDs, data modeling, and data pipeline thinking.

Technologies You’ll Work With

Core Data & Backend Infrastructure

  • PostgreSQL

  • Analytics databases / OLAP systems

  • Event-driven data pipelines

  • Node.js

  • TypeScript

  • Redis

  • Kafka

  • Data modeling tools

  • ERDs

  • CI/CD pipelines

Bonus / Nice to Have

  • AWS

  • Docker / containerised environments

  • Kafka or other streaming platforms

  • Data lakes/lakehouse architecture

  • Object storage for cold data

  • dbt or similar transformation tools

  • Datadog or other observability platforms

  • iGaming, crypto, fintech, or high-volume transactional systems

What We’re Looking For

Must-Haves

  • Strong professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, backend engineering, or a closely related role.

  • Deep understanding of PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, query planning, constraints, normalisation, denormalisation, migrations, and performance optimisation.

  • Strong understanding of ERDs and relational data modeling.

  • Experience designing clean, scalable data models for complex business domains.

  • Experience working with analytical databases, reporting databases, OLAP systems, or data warehouses.

  • Experience building or maintaining data pipelines from production systems into analytics/reporting systems.

  • Strong understanding of data quality, data consistency, data validation, and historical data management.

  • Ability to reason about trade-offs between normalised transactional models and denormalised analytical models.

  • Experience working with backend engineers and understanding how application architecture affects data architecture.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex data structures clearly to both technical and non-technical teams.

  • Ability to lead technical initiatives and drive best practices across engineering teams.

Nice-to-Have

  • Previous experience in a lead, staff, or principal-level data role.

  • Backend development experience with Node.js, TypeScript, or similar technologies.

  • Experience with real-time or event-driven systems.

  • Experience designing data retention, archival, cold storage, and backfill strategies.

  • Experience with data lakes, lakehouse architecture, object storage, or long-term analytical storage.

  • Experience with finance, payments, wallets, ledgers, player accounts, betting, casino, or other high-volume transactional systems.

  • Experience with compliance, auditability, fraud detection, or regulated data environments.

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, especially AWS.

  • Familiarity with containerised environments such as Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes.

  • Background in crypto, iGaming, gambling, fintech, or gaming platforms.

The Problems You’ll Help Solve

  • How should our production PostgreSQL schemas be designed as the platform grows?

  • How do we make our ERDs and domain models easier to understand and maintain?

  • How do we move data from transactional systems into analytics databases safely and reliably?

  • What data should stay in Postgres, what should move into analytics storage, and what should be archived?

  • How do we build reliable rollups, aggregations, and reporting layers without depending too heavily on production table structures?

  • How do we support product, finance, compliance, operations, and leadership with accurate data?

  • How do we prevent messy data models from slowing down engineering as the company scales?

  • How do we build a long-term data platform that can support millions of players and high-volume gaming activity?

Why This Role Matters

This is a high-impact role. You won’t just be writing pipelines or optimising queries — you’ll be shaping the data foundation of the company.

You’ll help define how Over99 models its core business entities, how data flows through the platform, how analytics are built, and how teams make decisions based on trusted information.

The right person will bring a mix of database expertise, data engineering experience, backend engineering awareness, and strong product/business understanding.
