Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and talented Security & IT Support Intern to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess foundational knowledge in both cybersecurity and general information technology, demonstrate excellent written communication skills, and have a proactive approach to problem-solving. This role involves running phishing campaigns, delivering vulnerability reports, conducting vulnerability assessments, supporting compliance gap assessments, and providing day-to-day IT support to internal staff and clients.
Location & Reporting:
This is a fully remote, unpaid internship. The intern will report to one or more supervisors within the Operations group, depending on the rotation point of the internship.
Key Responsibilities:
Phishing Campaigns: Assist in planning, executing, and analyzing phishing simulations for our clients under supervisor guidance. Contribute to detailed reports on outcomes and support recommendations for phishing prevention best practices.
Vulnerability Reporting: Support the generation of comprehensive vulnerability reports for clients, explaining findings in clear, non-technical language. Assist with actionable remediation recommendations under the direction of senior analysts.
Vulnerability Assessments: Participate in vulnerability assessments using various tools and methodologies. Identify security weaknesses and assist in suggesting appropriate mitigation strategies.
Compliance Gap Assessments: Assist in coordinating compliance gap assessments, taking detailed notes, and compiling findings into coherent reports. Work with senior analysts to ensure that compliance requirements are met and improvements are implemented.
IT Support & Helpdesk: Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 IT support to end users, including hardware and software troubleshooting, account provisioning, and device configuration. Assist with onboarding/offboarding workflows and maintain accurate asset and ticket records in the ITSM platform.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience: Some experience in information security and/or IT support, preferably in roles involving vulnerability assessments, phishing campaigns, compliance, or helpdesk/desktop support functions.
Communication: Strong written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences.
Professionalism & Initiative: Comfortable in client-facing interactions and professional communication in external settings. A self-starter who can work effectively within a structured mentorship environment.
Technical Proficiency: Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, vulnerability management tools, and phishing simulation platforms. Working knowledge of Windows and/or macOS environments, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and common ITSM/helpdesk ticketing platforms.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous in conducting assessments, documenting findings, and delivering reports.
Team Collaboration: Ability to work well within a team environment, coordinating with various stakeholders to achieve project goals.
IT Support Aptitude: Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve common hardware, software, and connectivity issues. Comfortable managing end-user requests in a professional, client-facing environment with a strong focus on service quality and responsiveness.
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CompTIA A+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), ITIL Foundation, or similar.
Experience with common vulnerability assessment tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys, OpenVAS).
Familiarity with IT support platforms and tools (e.g., Microsoft Intune, or similar RMM/MDM solutions).
Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR).
