We are seeking Cora / Náayeri (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Cora / Náayeri (an Indigenous ethnic group living in the mountainous regions of western Mexico, primarily in the states of Nayarit, Jalisco, and Durango.) is a critical language variety often required for asylum, refugee, and immigration cases.
Responsibilities
Provide real-time Cora / Náayeri ↔ Standard English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings.
Interpret with accuracy, neutrality, and professionalism in immigration and legal contexts.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics standards.
Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation requests.
Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Cora / Náayeri and Standard English.
2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, community, NGO, or government strongly preferred).
Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality standards.
Strong understanding of cultural nuances and regional variations of Cora / Náayeri.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
