This is a fully remote position that will support our Institutional/Private Sector Retirement Solutions team serving our clients on the West Coast, Pac Northwest, and Midwest.

The role will require approximately 50% travel and the person will need to be located near a major metropolitan area. Living within the territory is a requirement with most of the major clients residing near Denver, Portland, and in SoCal.

Job Description Summary

You will leverage well-established relationships with the top retirement consulting firms to ensure Nationwide’s inclusion in RFP’s (request for proposals) and influence Nationwide’s ability to win new business and retain clients.

As a Consultant Relationship Manager, you’ll be responsible for the overall relationship with regional retirement plan consultants. You’ll be working with all Internal Revenue Code (IRC) defined contribution plans. You will be responsible for advancing the Nationwide brand and reputation with the targeted consultants by demonstrating that we thoroughly understand each consulting firm’s needs, processes and expectations while also delivering value-added thought leadership and industry knowledge so that the consultant is the expert with their clients.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands and articulates Nationwide’s unique position in the retirement plans market.

  • Establishes and manages Nationwide Financial Workplace Solutions relationships with key public sector consultants and their consultant firms spread across either half of the United States.

  • Establishes ongoing relationships with regular and frequent contact/correspondences with individual consultants and firms in order to position Nationwide and share value proposition.

  • Delivers timely and relevant thought leadership and industry knowledge to consultants to make Nationwide their vendor/partner of choice.

  • Enables consultants to offer education opportunities and tools that can be used by plan sponsors to drive their business.

  • Creates sales activation by connecting thought leadership to Nationwide’s offerings and expertise in the marketplace.

  • Influences and educates consultants and firms on Nationwide features, capabilities and value statement to have consultants positively position the company with public sector clients.

  • Participates in acquisition and retention RFP process that involves a consultant. Coordinates closely with bid owner to assure RFP and finalists presentation are guided towards consultant and clients buying sentiment.

  • Advocates on behalf of the consultant’s firms to ensure their needs, goals, opportunities and concerns are understood within Nationwide Financial Retirement Plans.

  • Collaborates with colleagues to strategize, communicate and implement consultant-wide plans.

  • Partners with consultants to remove key concerns and obstacles that they may have with Nationwide.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Sales Director, Institutional Relationship Management.

Typical Skills and Experience:

Education: Undergraduate degree in marketing, business, finance or related field required.

License/Certification/Designation: FINRA Series 6, Series 63 and Series 65 required; designations such as ChFC, CLU, CRC are preferred.

Experience: Minimum eight years of sales and/or relationship management with demonstrated experience in the retirement plans field.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: In-depth understanding of retirement plans. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, detail oriented and strong technical skills and proficiency. Project management skills

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Requires high level of overnight travel based on business opportunity.
