What We’re Looking For:

The Community & Alumni Engagement Manager will build and steward the experiences that make the FoodCorps Leadership Network a meaningful community for alumni throughout their careers.


This role will be responsible for cultivating an active, connected, and member-driven network to which, alumni return because they find trusted relationships, relevant learning, opportunities to contribute, and a community that can help them move their work forward.


The Manager will lead key components of the (FoodCorps Learning Network) FLN engagement strategy, including community programming, problem-of-practice consultancies, network-wide mentorship, alumni-led channel engagement, and storytelling and celebration. They will develop programming that reflects the diverse career stages, interests, and engagement levels of FoodCorps alumni and create pathways for alumni to increasingly take leadership within the network.


This role is both strategic and highly relational. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable designing a network-wide engagement strategy, facilitating a conversation among peers, coaching an alumni volunteer, coordinating a virtual event, and noticing the emerging needs and opportunities within the community.

Skilled in facilitating meaningful virtual spaces, from interactive peer consultancies to large-scale network events, you know how to turn passive members into active, connected contributors. You are a natural builder and communicator who can seamlessly manage program logistics, oversee mentorship initiatives, and leverage engagement data to refine the member experience. Organized, systems-oriented, and adaptable, you thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Above all, you are curious, empathetic, and energized by cultivating an inclusive network that keeps alumni deeply connected to FoodCorps’ mission.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build a Connected and Engaged Alumni Community
    • Develop and implement strategies that strengthen alumni connection, belonging, and ongoing engagement with the FoodCorps Leadership Network.
    • Develop a regular cadence of community engagement that gives alumni meaningful reasons to return to the network.
    • Lead weekly engagement content that encourages alumni to share ideas, ask questions, celebrate one another, and contribute their expertise.
    • Maintain a strong pulse on alumni interests, needs, challenges, and emerging opportunities and translate those insights into relevant programming and engagement strategies.
    • Identify opportunities to deepen connections across programs, cohorts, career stages, and geographic communities.
    • Use participation and qualitative feedback to continuously improve the alumni experience.
  • Design and Facilitate Network Programming
    • Plan and execute quarterly fireside chats, including identifying topics based on alumni interests, recruiting and preparing speakers, coordinating registration and communications, and managing event logistics and follow-up.
    • Design and facilitate up to three annual Problem of Practice Consultancies, helping alumni surface real challenges they are navigating and creating structured opportunities for peers to offer ideas, connections, and solutions.
    • Develop additional opportunities for peer learning and connection based on emerging needs within the network.
    • Partner with internal teams, including Communications/Marketing and Leadership Pipelines, to promote and execute network programming.
    • Evaluate programming effectiveness and use participant feedback to strengthen future experiences.
  • Mentorship Programming & Resource Management
    • Manage the FoodCorps Leadership Network mentorship experience from recruitment through completion.
    • Recruit and engage mentors from across the FoodCorps alumni and broader professional network.
    • Develop and facilitate mentor orientation and preparation.
    • Lead the matching process and ensure mentors and mentees have the information and support needed to build productive relationships.
    • Establish accountability and engagement loops to support consistent participation throughout the mentorship cycle.
    • Coach mentors as needed and troubleshoot challenges that arise during the experience.
    • Guide the Kindred Fellowship leaders on the mentorship experience. 
  • Develop Alumni Leadership Within the Network
    • Support the development of alumni leaders who can increasingly contribute to and shape the FLN community.
    • Work with FLN channel owners to develop engagement plans, identify relevant resources, and create sustainable strategies for cultivating participation within their channels.
    • Identify opportunities for alumni to serve as facilitators, speakers, hosts, moderators, resource contributors, and other community leaders.
    • Help create the conditions for alumni-led programming and engagement to grow over time, reducing reliance on FoodCorps staff to operate every aspect of the network.



Skills of the Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience: 3-5 years experience in community operations, digital platform management, project manager, or internal operations 
  • Internal Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to organize cross-functional teams, run internal training, and enforce accountability and engagement standards across departments.
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience managing online community tools (e.g., Circle, Slack, Mighty Networks, Salesforce, or similar platforms).
  • Program Execution: Experience managing structured programs such as peer-mentorship programs or knowledge-sharing repositories.
  • Analytical & Operational Mindset: Comfortable using platform analytics to evaluate both user engagement and team workflow efficiency.
  • Mission Alignment: Deep commitment to mission-driven workforce development, leadership pipelines, and sustainable impact.


Measures of Success:

By the end of Year 1, the Community & Alumni Engagement Manager will:


  • Contribute to active monthly engagement rates across alumni and network participants toward the team goal of 40% monthly active participation. 
  • Deliver 2 virtual gatherings, and up to 3 Problem of Practice Consultancies with at least 80% satisfaction. 
  • High Internal staff confidence and compliance and activity rates with assigned audience segments and engagement protocols
  • Successful execution and at least 70% participant satisfaction rates in mentorship programming
  • Contribute to retention and career advancement rates toward the team goal of 90% of alumni in mission-advancing roles.
