Schedule:

This paid position is anticipated to begin during Fall 2026 semester and can continue for as long as the student is enrolled at UW-Madison. We expect the student to work at least 10 hours per week, with flexibility around exams and school breaks. Employment over the summer break is available based on student's interest.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Qualifications:

The ideal student (undergraduate or graduate level) is interested in a career in either communications or the health sciences fields. We seek a student who is curious and creative to join the UW Carbone communications team's projects in internal and external communications. The student will be assigned projects and work closely with the Communications Specialist for mentoring and skill building.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-Time management/ability to meet deadlines
-Ability to write clear, concise and engaging copy
-Ability to interview sources, take accurate notes
-Ability to multitask and communicate well with supervisor and sources as projects progress
-Ability to break complex topics down into plain language terms
-Mailchimp, Wordpress, photography and graphic design experience a plus, but not required

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Communications Student Assistant will be assigned projects that include creating content for staff newsletters, general public newsletters, UW Carbone website and social media. The students will schedule and conduct interviews, write copy according to guidelines set by Communications Specialist, and work with story sources on edits to ensure accurate information is being shared. Additional projects can be explored based on student interests.

This position can be fully remote.
