About the Role
We are seeking a strategically minded Communications Specialist to join our Impact Communications team on a six-month contract to cover a leave. This is a critical multifunctional role designed to provide support and momentum during a busy period.
In this role, you will be a versatile communications professional capable of producing high-quality content in both written and designed forms. You will have an ability to relay complex environmental, technical, and economic information succinctly and clearly to target audiences including journalists and industry influencers. You can collaborate effectively across teams and with our media agencies. You communicate clearly with colleagues, spokespeople, and journalists. You will lead the coordination of multi-functional communications for key events and activities across the world. You will have excellent project management skills to underpin your communication expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Multifunctional Content Creation & Strategy
- Develop and produce high-quality content (written copy and design) that distills complex, technical topics into clear, engaging, and accurate copy and assets whilst working quickly.
- Create written and designed media/influencer packages to support the positioning of Canopy with key industry, media, and opinion-former audiences.
Drive Communications for Key Initiatives
- Lead communications coordination for specific high-impact initiatives over the next six months, to engage the textile industry and target media.
- Build relationships with journalists and producers and manage relationships with target audiences via effective collaboration with our media agencies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with our media agency in India.
Success in This Role Looks Like
- Content Quality and Impact: High-quality, timely delivery of written and designed content that clearly communicates complex issues and strengthens campaign engagement with target media and audiences.
- Effective India Coordination: Smooth day-to-day management of the India media agency, resulting in aligned campaigns and streamlined asset delivery.
- Leadership on Key Initiatives: Successful execution of communications for priority initiatives, delivering compelling media and audience content that drives engagement.
- Narrative Clarity: Demonstrated ability to develop clear, persuasive messages from a narrative framework that resonate with core audiences.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in communications, with a strong emphasis on content creation (copywriting), design, and media relations.
- Content Creation and Writing: Exceptional English written communication skills with a proven ability to craft compelling copy for various platforms (media packages, presentations, social media, blogs) and translate complex issues into accessible language. Strong design skills are essential for the creation of communications assets.
- Media and Influencer Relations: Proven experience producing media and influencer packages and a strong understanding of the skills required to position stories effectively for target media and opinion formers.
- Project Management: Highly organized and adaptable, with a track record of leading communications for projects or events and managing external agency partners to deliver high-quality outputs on tight timelines.
- Strategic Mindset: Demonstrated ability to develop messages from a strategic narrative to target core audiences and support organizational goals.
- Organizational Agility: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, nimble, results-driven environment with shifting priorities.
- Preferred Assets: Experience working within NGO environments, supply chain transformation, fashion, paper/packaging, or sustainability-focused initiatives is considered a strong asset. Knowledge of or experience in the textile industry is highly desirable.
- Ability to undertake approximately 2-3 international trips, with experience of delivering communications at international events.
