Communications Intern - Summer 2026

 

The Human Rights First communications department is seeking interns to join our team. The Communications Intern(s) will have the opportunity to learn about the breadth of Human Rights First’s policy and advocacy work, and how the communications department supports this work through branding, public relations, and communications strategy. 
 
The intern will have diverse responsibilities across the department with opportunities to work in media relations, digital content creation, writing, and video editing. This internship is a great opportunity for a creative and motivated individual to gain hands-on experience with a fast-paced communications team.
 
How will you make a difference in the Human Rights space through this internship? 
 
By learning how to distill and communicate complex subject matter into accessible and engaging materials, the communications interns will help us work to reach people on an emotional level, highlighting shared values and encouraging the support of human rights.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Research and track press mentions and relevant media coverage. 
  • Compile and update contact lists of journalists and media targets. 
  • Develop creative digital and social media content, including considerable digital design. 
  • Post, monitor, and report on digital platforms, including social media and website. 
  • Prepare written materials, including blogs, email communications, and messaging documents. 
  • Conduct research for various communications projects.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated commitment to human rights issues 
  • Demonstrated interest in the communications field 
  • Excellent multitasking capabilities and attention to detail 
  • Strong writing and digital design skills 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups in a remote environment 
  • Experience in social media, web editing, and/or press strategy preferred 
  • Area of study in communications, journalism, international relations, public policy, or a related field, preferred
 
Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program.  
Compensation: Unpaid 
Submission Deadline: March 20, 2026
Start Date: May 26, 2026
End Date: August 14, 2026
Time Commitment: 15 hours per week
