The Friends Committee on National Legislation seeks a Coalition Organizer to work with our Advocacy Teams program. We need a well-organized, articulate, goal-oriented contractor who will support Advocacy Teams to cultivate relationships with community leaders to increase the power of our lobbying. Demonstrated background in organizing, coalition development, and grasstops cultivation is essential. Experience working with faith communities is also important.

A successful candidate for this position will be an inspiring self-starter who can work with people from many different backgrounds to help them develop higher level advocacy skills such as grasstop cultivation and coalition development. The Coalition Organizer can work from anywhere in the U.S. We expect the work to take about 8 hours per week.

The Program  

FCNL’s Advocacy Teams are building relationships with members of Congress and the media to win campaigns for peace and justice in Congress. The teams organize in their local communities and connect through a national network of advocates. As of August 2025, 135 Advocacy Teams span all 50 states plus Washington D.C. and include more than 1500 participants. Advocacy Team members include Quakers and friends who volunteer their time to lobby Congress on peace and justice legislation.  

This FCNL initiative, inspired by a relational advocacy model developed by RESULTS founder Sam Daley Harris, is engaging citizen advocates around the country to make change in federal policy.  

Scope and Timeline of Specific Requirements: 

Core Responsibilities 

• Support Advocacy Teams in building and strengthening relationships with community leaders as part of their advocacy work (including faith leaders and leaders from other sectors). 
• Train and coach Advocacy Teams in core organizing skills, including 1:1 relationship building, coalition development, and outreach strategy.  
• Provide ongoing coaching as Advocacy Teams build and engage coalitions in coordination with their advocacy campaigns.  
• Support Advocacy Teams in integrating coalition partners into lobby meetings, as well as other advocacy activities such as sign-on letters and in-district lobby days. 
• Maintain regular coaching rhythms to support momentum, accountability, and follow-through. 
• Encourage reciprocal relationship-building between Advocacy Teams and community leaders to strengthen long-term partnerships. 

Progressive Leadership Development Support 

• Strengthen Advocacy Teams’ ability to lead, strengthen, and sustain coalitions over time with increasing independence.  
• Coach teams to expand and sustain relationships with community leaders across multiple sectors.  
• Build long-term organizing capacity within Advocacy Teams, including planning, follow-through, and sustained coalition engagement.  

Reporting 

• Meet weekly with the Senior Advocacy Teams Manager and the Advocacy Teams staff and contractors as needed. 

Compensation & Work Expectations  

Compensation is $35 per hour for 8 hours per week.
