Join Brain in Hand
At Brain in Hand, we're passionate about making the world more accessible and fairer for neurodivergent people and those experiencing mental health challenges.
Our combination of practical digital tools and human support helps people build confidence, achieve their goals and live more independently.
With over half our colleagues identifying as neurodivergent, we're proud to build our services with lived experience at their heart. Recently recognised as one of the Times Best Places to Work, we're a supportive, ambitious organisation where people can make a genuine difference.
About the opportunity
Coaching at Brain in Hand is a little different from traditional coaching.
We bring together human support and digital tools to create a joined-up service that helps neurodivergent people build confidence, develop practical strategies and navigate everyday life.
As a Coach, you won't just deliver coaching sessions. You'll help people make the most of Brain in Hand's digital tools, connecting the conversations you have with users to the support they can access in their everyday lives.
We're looking for people who already have experience supporting neurodivergent individuals, particularly autistic people and people with ADHD, and who are excited about working in a service where technology and human support work together.
You'll typically deliver around four structured coaching sessions during a six-hour shift, alongside preparation, record-keeping and follow-up activities.
You'll work within our established coaching framework, bringing empathy, adaptability and sound judgement to every interaction while following agreed approaches and service standards.
This is a busy, structured and rewarding role where you'll make a meaningful difference to people's everyday lives.
What you'll be doing
Deliver high-quality, strengths-based coaching and support to neurodivergent users through approximately four structured sessions during a standard six-hour shift.
Consistently apply the Brain in Hand coaching framework, adapting your communication to individual needs while working within our agreed approach.
Bring together coaching conversations and Brain in Hand's digital tools to provide a consistent, joined-up experience.
Help users identify goals, develop practical strategies and use our digital tools in ways that are meaningful to their everyday lives.
Manage a structured coaching schedule, including preparation, accurate session notes and timely follow-up activities.
Deliver support through one-to-one sessions, group coaching and other approaches as our service develops.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, participate in supervision and contribute to continuous improvement through agreed team processes.
What we're looking for
You'll probably have...
Practical experience working directly with neurodivergent people, particularly autistic people and/or people with ADHD, in education, health, social care, coaching, employment support or a similar setting.
A coaching qualification would be an advantage, but is not essential. We're more interested in your experience, approach and ability to connect with people. We'll provide coaching training for successful applicants who aren't already qualified.
A good understanding of neurodivergence and how people's individual strengths, experiences, communication preferences and support needs can shape their everyday lives.
Practical experience of safeguarding in a previous role, including recognising potential concerns, understanding professional boundaries and knowing when and how to report or escalate concerns appropriately.
Experience adapting your approach to support neurodivergent people with planning, organisation, managing change, navigating challenges and achieving meaningful goals.
Experience helping people build confidence, identify practical strategies and develop greater independence.
Confidence using digital tools and an interest in how technology can improve people's access to support.
You'll also be someone who...
Takes a genuinely person-centred, strengths-based and neuroaffirming approach.
Is comfortable delivering multiple coaching or support sessions each day while maintaining empathy, focus and consistency.
Enjoys working within an established framework and following agreed processes and service standards.
Understands how to balance a structured approach with the flexibility needed to respond to individual needs.
Takes safeguarding responsibilities seriously, exercises sound judgement and understands the importance of following established procedures rather than managing concerns independently.
Is organised, proactive and comfortable managing a busy, scheduled workload.
Is curious about technology and enjoys helping people use practical tools to support their everyday lives.
Is reflective, collaborative and open to feedback, supervision and ongoing learning.
Working hours and wellbeing
This is a 30-hour-per-week role, working within our coaching service hours of 8am–8pm, Monday to Friday.
You'll work a rotating two-week shift pattern:
Early shift: 8am–2pm
Late shift: 2pm–8pm
Week 1: Three late shifts and two early shifts.
Week 2: Two late shifts and three early shifts.
We recognise the importance of wellbeing, particularly in roles supporting others.
As part of your 30 paid hours each week, you'll receive 3 hours of protected paid wellbeing time.
This means you'll typically work four full six-hour shifts and one shorter three-hour shift each week, while receiving your full 30-hour contractual pay.
Your shorter shift will be planned as part of the rota, ensuring we balance individual wellbeing with providing consistent support to our users.
Flexibility to work both early and late shifts is an essential requirement of the role.
Why join Brain in Hand?
We offer:
Three hours of protected paid wellbeing time each week, built into your working pattern.
Private Medical Insurance.
Competitive salary and pension.
33 days' annual leave (including bank holidays), pro rata.
Remote working within the UK.
Coaching training provided for colleagues who don't already hold a coaching qualification, alongside ongoing learning, supervision and professional development.
Regular supervision and peer support.
A supportive, values-led culture.
Opportunities to contribute to how our service grows and develops.
